We have 10 user titles here on Office Outlaw. When you reach a specific message count, you'll automatically move up to a new rank.

These user titles, along with the message count required for them, can be found below.
  • New Member - 0-49 messages
  • Regular Member - 50-99 messages
  • Active Member - 100-199 messages
  • Veteran Member - 200-599 messages
  • Senior Member - 600-2,999 messages
  • Chief Member - 3,000-5,999 messages
  • Royal Member - 6,000-9,999 messages
  • Eternal Member - 10,000-14,999 messages
  • Legendary Member - 15,000-19,999 messages
  • Ultimate Member - 20,000 messages

Would there be any restrictions or prerequisites for members to send direct messages (DMs) or start a thread or anything of the sorts?

For example, would they need to have at least 20 messages before they can send a DM?

If such restrictions will exist, I suggest using User Titles to indicate members with lower privileges.

For instance, if a 20 message count is required to send DMs or start a thread, we could introduce a tiered member system:
  • Probationary Member - 0-20 messages
  • New Member - 21-49 messages
  • Regular Member - 50-99 messages
That way, if any new restrictions are added in the future, we can simply refer to them to rank up past "Probationary Member status" to gain access to the said features.

Also, it does sound better (later on)
"You need 20 message count to DM"
"You need to rank up past "Probationary Member"

The former sounds spammy and does hint or lean towards (even if it was not the intention), go spam a few posts on a few threads and you will get access.

At the same time, for later post count, if we do ever add features & systems that requires a higher message count, we can tweak the User Titles to reflect that as well!

There aren’t any restrictions right now.

I’ve been hesitant to add any post count threshold restrictions in because of how that was abused on the other forum, as you pointed out. You know, we don’t need the Newcomer’s section filled with, “Welcome to Office Outlaw, I love you” posts.

At most, I would want to look into maybe limiting how often new members can start a conversation, but not limit their ability to start one right off the bat.

I agree that post count thresholds should probably be set up anyway for anything we might want to do later on.

That would be great, since that would also allow new users to actually buy/ask the vendor(s) questions, if/when we have a marketplace.

Hated that on The One That Shall Not Be Named. Turned me into Gargamel ( if you know you know)

Okay, I updated the level progression again to make it more exponential-like. Instead of 25k being the requirement for Ultimate Member, 20k is the requirement. The lower membership levels also easier to acquire in comparison the higher level ones.
