In all honesty, it sucks.
The model is no smarter than the rest and it takes ages to get an answer.

It does save some of the back and forth I often had with other models and the super dumb responses, but it's so slow that it takes more time to get a decent response with it, even after taking some of the back and forth away.

Very disappointing.

I cant even pick GPT 5 still on 4o

Maybe they're rolling it out slowly? They made it the default model in my account.

Indeed.

Eh...I agree with you
It seems Open AI can't follow Google anymore, Gemini is better without a new update, the distance tend to increase over the next months.

Unless they still need to release the best parts, for now, nothing out of the ordinary. I feel that GPT 4 was better for generating images, I hope they improve it, for now ChatGPT is still the best for image generation in my opinion, but if they keep releasing those new updates with minor improvements, it tends to be surpassed by its competitors

Code assistants in code editors are best.
I'm wondering whether they'll integrate that sloppy model or Claude 5 which may be rolled out too. I just never heard of Claude 5 yet. But one day it will come and it will be better for coding than GPT-5. :)

I’ve only heard bad things about gpt5 - haven’t tried it for myself yet but I don’t really want to now after what I’ve heard.

Apparently the update is more about economising ChatGPT and making it less energy intensive, which is probably why it’s so slow. It’s likely this is to make it less expensive to run so OpenAI can save money.

Yeppp, we had this coming... What a bubble... Shit's so unprofitable that they'll have to make it more economical to run and plaster ads all over the free version. Sadly this will mean worse experience for us.

Oh... my pal actually complained about this to me yesterday and I told him it was probably his internet conn 😄

I haven't experienced it being slow yet tbh... in fact, I would say it's pretty fast now

The saddest thing is to keep engaging with a chat started with 4o and see the avg response time doubles.

Because expectations were through the roof, a huge number of people viewed GPT 5 as a major letdown. By the end of the night, OpenAI’s street cred had dramatically fallen. On the question of “which company [will have] the best AI model at the end of August”, a Polymarket poll charted OpenAI dropping from 75% to 14% in the space of an hour.

It's not just that expectation were too high, it's objectively worse than the previous models.
Yeah he goes off on a bit at the end if you read it which makes it link to the bubble thread I created.

How ai companies are not profitable, lie, agi is far away not 2027 etc

I thought was an interesting read

4 was shit, they nerfed 3 to make 4 look smarter than it really is
5 is underwhelming just as shit
6 will be pathetic too
7 too
