Update Ignore Feature Improved

I was reading a thread where a member who ignored another member clicked the show ignored content button in a quoted post and got upset with the member.

Look, I understand the temptation to click that kind of button. After all, I've blocked many "relatives", old co-workers, and former "friends" over the years and across multiple platforms. One issue I had with all of these platforms is that it seems like these days, it's absurdly difficult to actually block someone. You block someone's phone number in your phone's settings and they can still leave voicemail unless you contact your carrier directly to block them on that as well. You block them on one social media site and they can still contact you on any other one. You block them on forums like this one and there's a stupid "show ignored content" button in quoted posts and at the bottom of every thread.

Now, I can't help you with those first two scenarios, but I can make it so that this forum no longer has the show ignored content button.

With this new update, when you ignore a user, you will no longer see the "show ignored content" button in any quoted posts and the "show ignored content" button at the bottom of every thread is now gone.

It's been tested already and it works as intended, but if you notice any issues I may have missed, mention them in this thread.

I’m laughing as I was literally thinking about this yesterday because of the same post you’re talking about, it gave me the same thought… it’s the same on X too where I hang out a lot, even if you block someone the site still lets you hit reveal or whatever, kind of defeats the purpose. Im the same if someone posts something in a spoiler I always have to click it.

A button telling you to click it to see the content is so hard to ignore, so this is a really good update imo

Just have the will power not to unblock and read. Seems obvious.

I think that if you ignored someone, it's up to you to not click the show ignored content button.

Not a fan of eliminating options as a feature, and whoever can't control the urge to reveal content the chose not to see can't really be surprised that they were upset over the content..

I had to ignore a member right now. If I ignore someone I don't want to see their content anywhere so this makes sense to do.

Just don't click the button. Seems obvious but then this is a IM forum.... That's lost on most.

Should be there if you ask me.

It's an update to the ignore feature; the update isn't a feature itself.

I suppose I just wanted to remove the temptations. I was thinking about that post this morning as I was going through and blocking old contacts I had in my phone and noticed a similar issue where I could reveal their voicemails. I didn't bother contacting my carrier because I'm just going to voicemails anyway, but I do remember a time when I was more likely to click those kinds of buttons with people I was upset with. I suppose I just wanted to remove the temptation entirely.

Anyway, if there's ever an update you feel takes away from the forum, you can open a forum suggestions thread about it and ask for it to be rolled back.

Think it's different to a phone call or a voicemail.

Again it's down to choice.

I think removing that option to not see what that person has post leaves it open to a future grey merky area.

Somone could bad mouth someone and they can't see it.

Could lead to someone sending a dm to that person claiming x y z and your unable to verify it (guess if you log out maybe)

But if you have to log out to view why not just have the button.

I just see it as a pretty immature thing to be honest. We all supposed to be adults (I don't act like one) but still.

Just seems a step too far. Feels like woke bullshit.

I don't really see it that way. If you ignore someone it's because you don't want to see their posts and that should just be the end of it.

I think the same as you if you dislike or hate someone for some reason you should just not look at whatever they say.

Silver. I won't ignore somone because they are always on the defense. I've tried plenty of times to be nice. I'm not the one with the problem.

If you ignore them. You don't see the posts.

It just says ignored content. YOU decide to view it..

That is the end to it. If your stupid enough to click view and get upset. That's on you.

The administration/moderation here is genius as always, thanks for implementing this. Somehow you manage to prevent us all from murdering each other (well... A lot of strong personalities here, lol) and littering the place without banning us all. Something that admins/mods at the other place never succeeded at.
