You can thank Windows 11's forced online accounts for that -

To all those people that stood by their beliefs about such things despite being called 'paranoid', 'tonfoil hat wearers' and so on, looks like those speculatil and hunches are paying off lol Keep fighting the good fight.

On a side note, you can still use local only accounts but it's not a default GUI option anymore as far aa i'm aware. This will be a bigger people that need to use their account to collaborate, use intunes and ms server and so on. Still thet are clearly trying to discourage the use of local accounts by removing the option it seems.

That link doesn't go anywhere, you might want to change that.

Seriously though, of course these companies will give out your details to authorities if they ask for it. Anyone not expecting that is insanely naive.

People are still treated like they are crazy for thinking their devices "listen to them". That might have been paranoid over a decade ago, but it's definitely an actual concern now.

I fixed it for him.

Imagine a U.S company complying with an FBI subpoena

In case you didn't read the article, the reason why this is in the news is because many people assumed Bitlocker, which is specifically what the article concerns utilised true zero-knowledge encryption, like LUKS.

The article highlights this not to be entirely true which may come as a surprise or even shock to a lot of users.
