The UK is another company that just passed a teen ban for social media.

Bet you anything they're just going to find a way to get around it easily haha.

That is just fancy voter talks in politics, totally useless law. They are trying to do the same in my country, what a waste of spent tax money that would do better in other areas. Kids will laugh at it on social media afterwards anyway.

They definitely will. And honestly, you can't really blame them. It's like taking a toy away from a kid. They'll always find a way to get it back.

This does nothing but shift the responsibility from parents to tech companies.

If the government really wants to ban social media for teens, then parents need to enforce it and be help accountable for violations. Like driving, where parents get the tickets (or court invites) if their 14 yo drives a car, not the guys building the roads.

Nope.

UK passed a digital registration law. It's the basic version of digital ID.

It's got fuck all to do with under 16s.

How do they want you to prove your over 16? Face ID, Digital ID, C/CARD or share Passport /Driving licence no.

Nothing to do with teen safety this is the easiest and quickest way for them to get a digital record on everyone in the UK. Because no one here wants a digital ID they found a way around it.

Youtube KIDS is automatically exempt as well as Whats App and Signal. But all other chat apps or discord will require proof of age. Setting messages to disappear will also no longer be allowed for anyone who doesn't comply.

This got snuck in with the teen safety act apparently:

Under the framework of the Online Safety Act, Ofcom has been empowered to direct social media platforms and online services to implement emergency censorship measures whenever the government designates an event as a “crisis.”
