I know no one wants this, and I can already see the downvotes coming, but it's in my mind for a few weeks and I need to get it out of my system, so hear me out:

It's not unrealistic to assume that it's going to happen in the next months or years.
Whether I die from old mental age, @UnusualSubstance gets salmonella or one of us drink themselves to death (no names on that one, but you guys know who yiu are lol).

I don't have a proper procedure for it because there isn't really a KYC being done on OO (thankfully), but I'd prefer knowing that if I get hit by a truck tomorrow, my account will remain as it is (sapphire won't expire, sales threads will get closed, trading stats locked, and the account becomes inaccessible).

Please don't show off that you have a real life loved one that would actually log in here and say you been killed.

What if they decide to die with you?

Also I been thinking long and hard on that @UnusualSubstance most meat fears with raw etc tends to come from part cooking and being part raw? I don't think there is anything that says you can't eat it 100% cooked or 100% raw. But 50-50 is bad.

I think thats how he's defying all food hygiene courses I taken.

I saw him eating raw chicken and pork.

50/50 as in a medium steak? I'm not giving up on this lol

no like half cooked food like chicken or something... think red meat in general is safe no matter what - I dunno tho

Interesting topic area . I knew someone passed off BHW .

Some may like or others may not it kind of depends on each person if they think good or bad idea.

For me in the middle for it being good or bad idea.

Some of you may remember a member on BHW named Techxan. If not, here’s a link to his profile:

This was a really good member of the community who I found to be very helpful back before I was a moderator there.

He passed away back in 2015, and I aways considered that to be a big loss to the community. I’ll link to the thread where his son mentioned it from his father’s account:

Another member posted a memorial thread before as well.

I’m sharing this to answer the question of how anyone would know a member passed away as this is a good example of that. We won’t know for every member, but for the ones we do know, I would be up for adding in this usergroup and making the account inaccessible

It would function sort of like a ban in the sense that logging into it would mean you can’t navigate the forum, but it would have a different badge and username colour. This way, we can allow the account to maintain its last status on the forum (e.g., Sapphire, Founding, etc) without there being a security risk if someone managed to get into it.

It’s a fairly easy addition to make to the forum, so let’s do 8 upvotes to implement this.

but how do we actually prove someone has passed tho
without doxing or KYC

I assume we wouldn't know in most cases, but it might work in some rare cases, where a family member comes here to say something (maybe it's the member themselves faking their own death, which would be weird)... I don't know, this is a secondary feature that, if approved, would probably be used once in a blue moon, no problem

I don't see it as a standard procedure, but as an option in case it is somehow confirmed.
I didn't figure it all out, yet, but I guess that as the community grows we'll have more IRL contact points between members so it'll be somewhat easier to verify

imagine going on a vacation so no access to OO for a month
and your irl friend decides to pull a prank and open a thread about your passing
come back to see a deceased tag

I'd describe this as highly unlikely as well as easily reversible.
We can stiffen the requirements beyond just "yoo he's dead, turn his account off"
