I know no one wants this, and I can already see the downvotes coming, but it's in my mind for a few weeks and I need to get it out of my system, so hear me out:

It's not unrealistic to assume that it's going to happen in the next months or years.
Whether I die from old mental age, @UnusualSubstance gets salmonella or one of us drink themselves to death (no names on that one, but you guys know who yiu are lol).

I don't have a proper procedure for it because there isn't really a KYC being done on OO (thankfully), but I'd prefer knowing that if I get hit by a truck tomorrow, my account will remain as it is (sapphire won't expire, sales threads will get closed, trading stats locked, and the account becomes inaccessible).

Some of you may remember a member on BHW named Techxan. If not, here’s a link to his profile:

This was a really good member of the community who I found to be very helpful back before I was a moderator there.

He passed away back in 2015, and I aways considered that to be a big loss to the community. I’ll link to the thread where his son mentioned it from his father’s account:

Another member posted a memorial thread before as well.

I’m sharing this to answer the question of how anyone would know a member passed away as this is a good example of that. We won’t know for every member, but for the ones we do know, I would be up for adding in this usergroup and making the account inaccessible

It would function sort of like a ban in the sense that logging into it would mean you can’t navigate the forum, but it would have a different badge and username colour. This way, we can allow the account to maintain its last status on the forum (e.g., Sapphire, Founding, etc) without there being a security risk if someone managed to get into it.

It’s a fairly easy addition to make to the forum, so let’s do 8 upvotes to implement this.

I believe many of us already know each other through other platforms. For example, I’m connected with @MisterF , @polecat t, and a few others on Facebook and elsewhere. If something were to happen to me, I’m pretty sure these members would know and could confirm or vote to change my account status accordingly.

As for members who are 100% non-KYC and have no known connections, it’s unfortunate, but I guess they would lose their account status. Fair enough, I suppose.

That was what I figured: it seems like many of us were already connected elsewhere since this is a community.

In those cases where someone isn't very connected with others, then we just wouldn't know, and like you said, the account would just lose its status.

No one is immortal so it's always good to have such section so we don't forget each other

"You will be missed section"

Maybe not a section, but I can certainly look into a thread. I wouldn’t really know where to put that kind of thread, though. You know, it would feel a little weird to have it in The Saloon.

Thinking on it now, I can always just create a page node and put the link in the footer or something.

I would agree. My main concerns possible doxing or some family's prefer being private.
