Where do you get news article topics from? For niche blogs, I do my research and provide my writers with article ideas and keywords. But how does that work with news sites? I assume writers who are trained for writing news tend to figure out what to write about by themselves, but where do they get the topics?

ChatGPT says follow newswires, PR releases, related communities in social media and related forums. In short, it says keep your eyes open, look around and look for news article ideas. I mean is that really how it works? Isn't there a secret sauce?

I normally follow people who are experts in the area and make content based on what I know going on

Why not set up Google alerts and put keywords in for topics and thst you want to know about.

It will share news, indexed articles etc

At least that's one option for you. You can write up on trends etc

Id also looking for hashtags or breaking: etc on places like x(twitter)

this helps, thank you
No problem I just had a look now if you put in the X search

Code:
breaking: #niche

it comes up with a good few news worthy tweets and trends that have happened recently.

I’ve always wanted to run a news website, but I’ve never gotten around to actually creating one.

The plan I had was to use sites like Reddit and Imgur for topics people were asking questions about, but that idea might not be fast enough if you want to best others to the punch.

I used to be in a niche a bit related to "news". My niche was science, and I got the latest news simply from giant science medias like "live science" and other similar websites.

So, for me, I'd do this:
I would set-up an automation using wp automatic (or any similar plugin) to get latest news from websites similar to mine. I don't really remember, but I guess you can set up the details of the details, like what keyword to avoid, and what to scrape. You can set up this with GPT-API to rewrite the news, and publish them as Draft in your Wordpress, and then you can edit them manually and keep the good ones and delete the bad ones.

I would also follow any related media for my niche, and subscribe to their email list to get the news. and as t2van said, google alert is good too.

Another way if you don't want to use WordPress for this is to set up a telegram bot to scrape the news using RSS (feed) and give them to you on your own channel.

hope I could help
