Anyone think that forums are going to become popular again?

I saw a discussion on Reddit about what happened with Discord and a lot of people seemed to agree that places like Discord and Reddit are going downhill fast.

I think a lot of us are really sick of places like that but use them because they're popular!

But they're really oppressive. Mods who ban people for personal reasons, made up rules on the spot and stuff like that. Then there's really obvious corruption going on with censorship or corporate stuff that just kills the vibe of those communities! Also places like Discord asking for way too much for personal info like IDs (and you know they probably sell them like they do with all your other data).

Personally I don't know if forums will make a comeback! I think places like Reddit have site functionality that I've never seen a forum have. I think if a site came along with that kind of functionality and did the opposite of what they're doing on those platforms then a lot of people would flock to it.

I kind of doubt forums would see a revival to the level of prominence of the old days, nor do I think they would ever 'die out'. Perhaps an uptick in usage from those seeking refuge from Discord's aggressive policies, but I fear regulations may also be coming next to target online discussion spaces such as forums and Reddit as well. They'll lock down the big fish first e.g Discord and social media platforms with so many requirements and gotcha's that it'll catch the smaller platforms as a by-product.

Then again nowadays I see these kids my sons age wearing the clothes we wore in the 90s and early 2000s as a fashion statement. Perhaps forums will become the new in chic for them. Now if we could just convince them its cool to go out and vote and rage against the machine :ROFLMAO:
