Hi,
I’ve been a WordPress developer for a long time, I used to sell my plugins on Envato / CodeCanyon. Back in the day, it was a solid place to launch something and get a profit from it. But over time, it started to fall apart, especially with how aggressively they've been pushing Elements... It just doesn't feel like it's built for WordPress plugins or themes any more.
Eventually, I got fed up and decided to build something of my own. That's how WPBay was born.
The idea is straightforward: create a marketplace where plugin and theme developers can set their own prices, handle updates, and get to build a real customer base.
I originally built it for myself, based on how I wish CodeCanyon had worked. It supports both one-time payments and subscriptions (monthly or yearly), has built-in support tools, upgrade paths, and license management. Since launching, I've been shipping updates weekly for it. A few early sellers are already on board, and the feedback so far is good.
I also started working on an SDK that lets developers handle license checks, support requests, and even direct purchases from inside their plugin's WP admin. It's been a ton of work, but honestly, this is the most excited I've felt about a project in years.
I'm sharing this here because I'd love to hear what you think. What would make you actually want to use a new marketplace like this? What are the things other platforms always seem to get wrong?
I'll keep posting updates here as the journey continues. Any ideas, feedback, or suggestions are more than welcome.
