Back story & problem:

So Apple seems to want to go down this road of just bricking old tech. I used to love my Power Mac it would work fine and run just great for years and years. In fact I could probably dig out the old one and it will run everything fine.

More and more my intel Macs which seem to be heavily store dependant on updated and what not no longer want to upgrade because my OS is old. But I can't get the latest OS because my Mac is old! I guess most are pushing 13 years old. But my power Mac was 16 maybe 20 years before support stopped for apples own processors. I can't see any of my machines making it close to 20 (despite there's nothing wrong with them)

If this is a running trend I also don't think I want to go down the road of buying another Mac despite using nothing but for my entire adult life.

What I want:

So I've been looking at "PCs" tooo much choice. Any suggestions.

It just needs to be a solid workhorse something I can use day in day out without any problems. I been told to look at getting an old server or workstation and max out the ram on that? Anyone done anything like that - I've not done anything hardware wise for years so out of the game.

Looking for advice.

I already got HD monitors.

Current set up is 2012 Mac minis and 2012 MacBook Airs

I need to replace 9 Mac minis and 2 Airs

Go.

Honestly,
So Apple seems to want to go down this road of just bricking old tech.
I dont think windows will be any better
they already forcing it thru the 10-> 11 update
altho 10 is usable
its just at security risk

so just get a load of new recent gen minis and go with it?
honestly
its whatever is easiest for you
both company are greedy as fuck
i can honestly probably see windows killing w11 ~2028~2030 and force some win12 sub or someshit.
although i would totally hate that

That's why I use refurbished enterprise Dells (good stable machines for business) and Linux. Of course I'm biased here because I'm linux user since 2001 but with my set up I don't have these problems. Of course it's not for everyone, etc. Tbh I'm one of people that prefers non-technical people to stay away from linux 😂, but yeah, there's lots of beginner friendly options now.
