Denmark wants to combat AI-generated deepfakes by including citizens' appearances in copyright legislation. The law will prevent AI from cloning and creating digital copies of people. Everyone should have the right to their own bodies, faces and voices.

According to the Danish government, this is the first law of its kind in Europe. According to The Guardian, the law has broad support across party lines. The proposal for the amendment to the law is due to be submitted in the autumn after the summer recess.

Denmark defines a deepfake as “a highly realistic digital representation of a human being,” including appearance and voice. Deepfakes are not only a problem regarding disinformation, but are also exploited for fraud and online bullying, among other things.

Is this the way to go?

So if you take a picture in a public place and accidentally someone got into the frame? You'll get sued if you post it to FB?

It's not a deepfake, but it's using someone's copyright. Isn't it?

Aren't you already supposed to ask for permission?

Well, if they make a video out of it, it is.
So faces are their own "tier" of copyright, where it's only applicable if it's used in deepfakes?

I take a selfie with my wife and there's someone walking in the background.

Well, read the article, I`m not danish and don`t know how their laws work.

There's too much that can go wrong with this, and a wave of frivolous lawsuits will probably follow this populistic law. It'll eventually blow up in their copyrighted faces.

In my country, everything that can be seen from the streets( public) is allowed.
Perry neighbor filming inside your house from the street is fine, but using his bedroom window to film inside your house is not.

But filming on private property like your fenced off garden or inside a store is not allowed.

so what happens to identical twins?

A lot of people have similar features or looks so how exactly can you copyright looks makes not much sense to me plus if you got twin then gets a lot more complex to me just seems kind of silly or will cause more problems than fix.

A lot of people struggle to tell the difference between brothers if their ages pretty close together.
