I was reading about how AI is progressing so fast that AGI could be approaching faster than anticipated.

What do you think about that possibility?

Will the AGI see us as mere pests like ants and aim to eliminate us as fast as possible?

Or perhaps the AGI will help us solve the world's problems and perhaps even make us an interplanetary species.

Scary yet exciting times ahead.

PS: An AGI is basically an ai capable of human cognition so think human level intelligence.

Enjoy this extremely ironic ai generated overview from big G:

AGI is an acronym for Artificial General Intelligence, a theoretical type of AI that would possess human-like cognitive abilities, capable of understanding, learning, and applying knowledge across a broad range of intellectual tasks, unlike today's narrow AI systems which are specialized for single functions. While AGI is currently a research goal and a hypothetical concept, its development would require significant technological and scientific breakthroughs, with the aim of creating machines with general problem-solving abilities and the capacity to adapt to novel situations without specific pre-programming.

We don't know how long it takes it could be 2 years or 5 or 20 or any amount

Take a right in the next crossing on your bike ride next time and you will find it, so, yeah, it is around the corner coming.

I got two thoughts on this...

I think we might be a while off I think the computing power hasn't caught up with the demand it would need on services. I know China has been making break throughs in the next level of processing power and that, maybe we need that to get there, maybe we don't.

Maybe it's not possible with tech advancements. I do know that our advancement in technology (computing wise) does seem to be getting faster and faster...

I mean if you look at 1900 - 1960-70 it took that long to get a working CPU (I might be off a few years in terms of computer science here) then look at where we got from computing from 1970/80s - 2000 and now in that time frame where we are heading just 25 years later is mind boggling really... So the chances of us hitting AGI or even a "Super Intelligence" in our life time is very high if not within a few years, certainly next decade.

Now the other side of me I always think the stuff we "plebs" get to play with is old tech... If we have access to something guaranteed corporations have something "better" we just play with older stuff.

I think the reason GPT seems fucking stupid is because they are limiting what it can do and they don't know how to handle it (and or it's just built on shit code) ALSO the stories you see about the different LLMs that try to keep them self alive and blackmail people. Does make me think, are we there? Is it here. It's just in a box everyone is trying to close up.

What I do know about AGI and Super Inteligence in my own opinion is that everyone seems to think it's for the greater good. At no point in our history as humans have we gone to a lesser civilisation and helped them for our own greater good, so based on our own past and teachings why would something that becomes smarter than us want to help us?

I think people think we can make it adapt to our way of life, integrate and help us to make us better.

When in reality it would be us that need to change and adapt and help it.

AGI is both exciting and scary at the same time.

I think the whole thing is a load of bollocks. Built on false premise and with that being said ,about as likely as these people that claim AI servers and systems can become haunted or possessed

I posted this self-learning dog before that learns by it self without outer instructions, so we are getting there.

I have read about this too but this has nothing to do with AGI. Physical Agentic AI is still completely the domain of something called Narrow AI.

What is AGI,
  • A theoretical form of AI that is not only specialized in individual tasks (narrow AI), but can perform all intellectual tasks that a human can.
  • Such intelligence would be able to learn, reason, and adapt to new situations in a way that resembles human problem-solving.
So, does it not learn and adapt as a human by it self?

But can it use any previous ‘skills’ or ‘learning’ it might have achieved to accomplish any new task in contexts outside of the parameters of the specific range of tasks is was designed for, without relying on people to retrain the underlying system? It’s a skin on classic notion of robotics is all.

That remains to see, it is to new yet for either of us to speculate on.
