I've never expressed this online, but I can't stand it when people ring the doorbell or knock on the door. I actually disabled the doorbell for my house just because I find the entire concept annoying. After all, the only people who have ever used my doorbell have been unwanted pests on my property either trying to sell me stuff or ask me for something random.

But you may be wondering how I stop people from knocking on my door. After all, I can't just affix spikes to my door as a physical deterrent without causing myself issues. I can't finish building the wall around the property right now either, so it had to be something on the door specifically.

Well, I needed something weatherproof that people couldn't just open easily and proceed with knocking on the door. I considered putting up these acoustic panels I use on my interior doors, but the sun would destroy these pretty quickly.

As it turns out, the solution was right in front on me the entire time. In addition to the acoustic panels on my walls and doors in the house, I also have these magnetic thermal curtains on the other side of each door. They look like this:

You can apparently by weatherproof versions of these, so I figured I'd give these a go and put one up. The way I set it up, it will definitely stop someone from knocking on the door. I can also secure it from the other side to prevent any pests from trying to just it up and knock on the door.

"But what about the peephole?"

Who cares? I have multiple outdoor cameras I use if for whatever reason I'm curious to know who's at the door. If the cameras ever went offline, then all well.

So tell me, am I the only one who can't stand people knocking on the door or ringing the doorbell?

Cant they just pull back the curtain thing and knock? 🧐

Why don't you want people knocking?

I could kind of back the idea if someone knocked AND rang doorbell at the same time, those double door hitters fuck me off big time - pricks.

But I'm just confused on the whole anti door knocking full stop.

It is PTSD related or Bailiff lol..

Seems umm strange 😂

A 2 meter high Palisade fence with a locked gate seems like a better solution to keep bugs out of the yard.

@Zwielicht probably would want to add electricity to that fence

This is half the answer. Its cute, funny and passive aggressive

Well, he wants solar so that could be a project. Hmm.

Gallagher 16 you want. But it doesn't give that big of a shock so a DIY version would be better.

Yeah, solar-high-voltage-battery-setup-fence directly.

Yeah but I think what would be better is if he dug a moat first. Go medieval.

Then set up a solar electric current to the water AND fence.

The door Curtin thing can be used as the last line of defence, if they make it. They DESERVE to knock.

And here I thought everyone over there had a machine gun rattler, hmm.

So. Moat. Electric Fence. Machine gun. Curtain.

We got the start of a good business idea here. Celebrity protection, governments, dooms day preppers

Its already proven to work

It depends on how much they want to fiddle around with it. There are these velcro straps on the inside part to secure it closed. We don't use the front door much since we leave through the backdoor, so it doesn't inconvenience us.

That's why, or at least that was why originally. It doesn't set me off like it used to, but now I just find it annoying.

I have a wall nearly around my full yard, but I don't have the materials or the funds to close it off right now.

Well... yeah. ;)

Although that's considered an illegal trap where I live, so it's not an option.

Ah velcro. The downfall of man.

Yeah bailiff can be annoying. I missed quoted you as I didn't think you meant PTSD

Go skip diving or start hunting for pallets and do a nice hit and miss fence?

If you do the miss pattern on the back. You got almost a wind proof fence as it lets it pass through and its very private. Con is takes a while to get materials but you can hunt around pallets easily enough won't take that long.

Like most things its only illegal if you get caught.

If you set the voltage high enough, they will never be able to go back and report you.

Win. Win.

That's all fun and games until you set the voltage too high and they get sent back in time...

Now they'll knock before you had the fence up....

Wait.

Perhaps this is a bootstrap paradox.

The knockers ARE the people you sent back in time due to high voltage!

This begs the question.

Where did the first knocker come from?

I'm now too sober to reply to this

That's what I would normally do since there are a lot of pallets around here. However, the city I live in likes to treat the area like an HOA, so they're very strict on how you build your fence or what it's made out of.

I had a neighbour who built this Mad Max-looking fence, and he was fighting with the city for over a year about it. They were trying to fine him for building the fence, but they ended up letting it go because he did at least build it to spec, even if it looks a bit silly.
