The Earth will get a black box.
It will tell future generations about what led to a potential collapse – or how it was managed to be avoided.
A project called Earth's Black Box will document humanity's impact on Earth - and preserve information in case a global catastrophe occurs, writes CNN.
The large steel structure is being built in Tasmania and will continuously collect data on, among other things, climate change, carbon dioxide levels, biodiversity, energy use and world events.
The idea is that if humanity were to ever suffer a global catastrophe or collapse, future generations would be able to understand what happened and the decisions that led to it. If, on the other hand, the world manages to deal with the climate crisis, it will instead become a historical archive of how we got through it.
