Since the 80's my mother and I have used secret 'passphrases' when communicating as a means of identifying if either person is safe or not, or if a friend of hers was asked to pick me up from school. I've kept this practice going with my wife and son to this day. With the absurd advancement of AI generated voice and video clones I think this practice is more important than ever, and with the recent abduction of that journalists mother it's got me thinking lately to add additional levels of security e.g varying words for different severities/situations.

As my wife's parents have been getting up there in age, I've been hammering this point in to them as well. Even before AI clones the elderly were getting duped left and right.

Just sharing this as a bit of a PSA and curious who else follows this practice already or wants to share other tips for family safety.

Only thing I do is with my daughter (and son once he gets a mobile) is if she wants to leave and not be the bad guy to text "Q" and ill ring and say I need to come and get her and I'll be the bad guy, if needs be will make something up like she forgot to do XYZ before going out, or something has happened and she needs to get home etc.

Easier for me to be a partier pooper in this day and age where kids can be shits and offer zero rest bite from hazing.
