I've started to see this as a upcoming topic on YouTube. "Keyword gaps"

I thought everyone done this but clearly that seems not to be the case or no one talks about it.

Keyword gaps (I don't like keywords - I think its outdated) at least in my opinion! What is it: People are searching for something, the SERP isn’t really satisfying them.

You can take advantage of this and build the definitive page, guide, tool or whatever it is to dominate.

This is exactly what I started doing when I built up my company it's nothing fancy, it's long winded and we still do something similar to this now but again it's adjusted and altered to fit outside the scope of keywords.

However that said and in the essence of sharing here is a simply prompt I've created you can use to find your own gaps, in your own niche by using AI to do most of the legwork for you.

Note you still need to check each result it gives you as i't not always correct but more often than not. It is.

Template Prompt — “SERP Weakness Keyword Gap Finder”

Prompt:

Act as an advanced SEO strategist and SERP analyst.
Your task is to identify keyword opportunities in the [industry or niche] where Google’s current search results are weak, mismatched, or under-served — i.e., where [brand name or website] could create a single, intent-matched page and dominate.

Focus on [geographic focus — e.g., UK / US / Global] searchers and the following topical areas:
[insert list of product or content themes — e.g., product categories, service types, common problems, etc.]

Identify keywords where:

  • The top results are thin, outdated, or forum-based.
  • Search intent is mixed (e.g., ecommerce + DIY blogs + Reddit threads).
  • There’s no authoritative or comprehensive content piece that fully satisfies user intent.
  • The topic aligns with [brand name]’s audience, products, or content strategy.

Return your findings in this table:

| Keyword | Search Intent | Why Current Results Are Weak | Opportunity Level (High/Med/Low) | Recommended Content Type | Suggested Page Title or Concept |

Generate [number] keyword opportunities.
Prioritize high-relevance, medium-competition terms that [brand name] could realistically rank for with strong, intent-matched content.

Think like an SEO professional identifying where the SERP sucks — not just where the site doesn’t rank.

Example of the kind of opportunities to find:

  • “how to [do something related to your niche]” → current results are forums or thin content; no authoritative resource.
  • “best [product/service] for [specific use-case] [location]” → mixed SERP (blogs, Reddit, ecommerce), no clear leader.
Output the table and ensure each keyword represents a genuine search-intent gap or weakness.

You can take this a step further and ask it to list X amount in a table, build out a CSV and so on.

This is with dummy content filled in:

Example Prompt

Prompt:

Act as an advanced SEO strategist and SERP analyst.
Your task is to identify keyword opportunities in the UK paint and home-decorating niche where Google’s current search results are weak, mismatched, or under-served — i.e., where ColorSmith Paints could create a single, intent-matched page and dominate.

Focus on UK searchers and the following topical areas:
interior paint, exterior paint, colour matching, eco-friendly paint, home decorating, paint problem solving (e.g., mould, peeling, streaks), and DIY techniques.

Identify keywords where:

  • The top results are thin, outdated, or forum-based.
  • Search intent is mixed (e.g., Amazon, Reddit, and random blogs).
  • There’s no authoritative or comprehensive piece that fully satisfies intent.
  • The topic aligns with ColorSmith Paints’ products and audience.

Return your findings in this table:

| Keyword | Search Intent | Why Current Results Are Weak | Opportunity Level (High/Med/Low) | Recommended Content Type | Suggested Page Title or Concept |

Generate 50 keyword opportunities.
Prioritize high-relevance, medium-competition keywords that a UK paint retailer could realistically dominate with one strong, intent-matched page.

Think like an SEO pro identifying where the SERP sucks — not just where the site doesn’t rank.

Example of the kind of opportunities to find:

  • “how to paint over mould on walls” → current results are Reddit threads and affiliate blogs; no detailed brand-authored expert guide.
  • “best ceiling paint for kitchens UK” → mixed SERP (Amazon, Screwfix, blogs), but no authoritative product + expert advice page.
Output the table and ensure each keyword reflects a real content weakness or mismatch.

Some example output for you to gander at:

This is just to give you some ideas or for those that might need it. Into another way to conduct your research in a way that's obviously not spoken about much or talked about in great detail.

How you go about ranking and working out what's needed to rank for these "keywords" is on you ;) but that's simple enough to figure out. Obviously if it's mostly videos doing a static image won't cut it and so on lol..

Like anything it's just an aid to help you step off and take your research, content and marketing in a whole other direction.
