Pending Highlight threads for some topics?

Do we need threads about war, politics or whatever to be highlighted?

Regardless of the interaction on that thread.

Should it be highlighted as a top post, newlesletter post or whatever?


Personally (yes, it's me) I don't think we need to promote war topicszor anything else of that nature if it's semi taboo. It's a marketing forum.

I think highlighted posts should be reserved as such. Fuck what goes on in the world around us.

It's no dig at the OP of the current one. I think if that one has been highlight then shouldn't the Ukraine one be also.

Where is the line drawn.

Is epstine stuff something we should highlight also? Thats what we all about?

I didn't think that's what the highlightes feature was for. But maybe I'm in the wrong.

As far as I'm concerned we should only highlight threads that are marketing or somewhat work or business related threads.

Haven't seen any Ukrainian thread being highlighted but I'm sure that at some point someone is gonna blame us for that too.

No, none have been that I'm aware.

My point is If the Iran one can be. Ukraine can be also. And all other political or war topics.

If enough members request a thread they think is useful to be highlighted via report then mods will also consider highlighting those.

Yes I started the thread after I mentioned in the support ticket. I thought about it and it still makes sense.

I don't think war, political whatever along them lines should be highlighted.

It's a marketing forum.

I think anything that's outside of that relm regardless if it had 20 or 20,000 comments is stupid to feature or highlight.

Yes I'm sure there a Russia / Ukraine thread or something like that here. Or at least a topic along them lines I've replied about previously.

I think it's okay to highlight war threads because they contain information that might be useful to someone on this community. Highlighting threads will make it easier to not miss those threads and the discussion in them.

They aren't limited to the Platinum section. That's why there are multiple public threads on these topics.

Browsing around Office Outlaw, you've likely seen some posts in threads that have this highlight feature.

There's just a single update today, although it's a pretty big one.

We have some new prefixes in The Saloon. This was based off of a suggestion by @t2van, but we went ahead and added in some additional prefixes.

• Books - We have a lot of avid readers on OO, so I wanted to add a prefix in to encourage these discussions.
• Computing - https://officeoutlaw.com/threads/add-computing-under-general-category.2369/
• Weekend - We often have threads about weekend plans, so this seemed like an obvious one to add in.
• Holidays - We allow others to celebrate holidays on OO, and since many of you want to create threads on holidays, I felt it was fine to add a prefix in.
• Movies - Movie threads tend to come up here a lot, so I added this prefix in.
• Music - We get music threads on occasion, so now we've got a music prefix.
• Sports - I'm not into sports myself, but many of you are, so you can use this prefix to find threads pertaining to sports.

There were some prefixes we decided not to go with.

• Birthday - I didn't think it was wise to add this one in. After all, do we really want to make easy for someone to scrape birthdays of members? We already decided to allow birthday posts for those who display it publicly, but I felt adding in a prefix for it was too much.
• Anything regarding politics - We've been a bit loose about the politics rule lately just to try something out. I'll post a thread about this later in the suggestions section.

There's a new prefix in all of The Saloon sections. It's called "Offbeat News".

Members tend to discuss politics here, and we wanted a way to categorise that without adding a "Politics" prefix. After all, we don't necessarily want to encourage just those specific discussions, but we do want to encourage members to share news in general. The Offbeat News prefix is general enough to capture all of those news-based discussions in a way that also conveys that it's not "SEO news" or "IM news" to those who are interested in those on-topic discussions.

We've also added prefixes to the Cryptocurrency section: Crypto News, Stablecoins, Altcoins, and NFTs. We'll be categorising existing threads through the day, but yeah, we finally have prefixes in that section.

Up next, we've added an "Algorithm Update" prefix to the SEO Discussions section. This isn't just for Google, but for any search engine that updates it's algorithm. There's also an SEO Tools prefix, this way you SEO guys don't need to use the Tools at the Forge section as a dumping ground for SEO Tools

Today's update is part of a larger one where we're going to reorganise the prefix feature across the forum and update subforums that don't have any prefixes.

@Dopious brought up the topic that was interpreted as the other place bashing. I'm totally honest thats how I saw that threat.
