New How Many Stars Should Be Displayed On Profiles?

As part of our effort to streamline the appearance of things on the forum, we're taking a look at how stars are displayed

I have a simple question for everyone today: should we display 4 stars on profiles or 8 stars?

Update: I managed to adjust things so we can have 5 stars as an option as well. Look at my profile for an example of what that looks like.

8 would appear too cluttered imo. The other forum had the right idea with it changing colors after 4-5.

I don't know if you saw my profile in the last 15 minutes, but I was experimenting with that colour change.

Right now, I can only do it so the first 4 are bronze, then the next 4 are silver, then 4 gold stars, etc. But then people would have mismatched stars. I'm still looking into it, although in the meantime, I'm just trying to work out if we should display 4 or 8.

When I set it up, it currently displays 8, but nobody has more than 4 stars right now. We're going to get someone with 5 stars over the next couple of weeks though, so that's why I'm trying to sort this out now.

I may have found a way to get that to work automatically. It's a little tedious to set up, but I can definitely do it that way.

4 does look a lot cleaner to me as well. I'll keep testing it out in the meantime whilst we get more votes in.

4 is good. 8 makes it cluttered. I suppose 8 would be okay if the stars itself would be made smaller.

Okay, I worked out a way to make it seem like the stars change colours, so if 4 stars being displayed wins the popular vote, I'll just put that system in place.

1. 4 stars with a standardized color scheme going up (Using LoL color scheme would probably work, since everyone knows LoL)
   • Bronze – deep brown-orange
   • Silver – light gray
   • Gold – shiny yellow
   • Platinum – icy silver blue
   • Diamond – blue with shimmering effects
   • Master – rich purple-pink tones
   • Grandmaster – deeper red-pink with elite vibes

3. if it has to be 2 lines then 4 stars

The test system I set up works very similarly to that. In order to get this to work though, the first 4 (bronze) stars would need to obtained individually, but from your "5th" star onward, it would instead change the colour of the stars from bronze to silver. It's the only way to get it to work with what we have.

I found out right now there's a way to change the number of badges, I just need to find where that option is.

Okay, if you look at my profile, you should see 5 stars.

The size of the stars has been reduced because that was required and, for some reason, I can't adjust the gap between them. It does mean we can have 5 stars without them looking too small, at least.

Hey, I just did it right now!

I'll be honest, sometimes I'm just a bit lazy about it. Anything can be done, although I am also working on everything else here, so I can't spend as much time as I want looking into things.

Anyway, if everyone likes the 5 star look, we can keep that. I kind of prefer the smaller stars, anyway. At the size they were before, they felt a little off-balance when compared to the size of the text and the badges, if you know I mean.
