I just made a little over £500k, that's about $675k USD. Which is now sitting in a bank account.

When I was 18 i would never have dreamed i'd have this much cold, hard cash in the bnak and yet 3 years later, here I am. I thought I would be happy and content but i'm not. I know some friends who would be over the moon with that amount I just don't feel anything inside for some reason. Am I being an ungrateful little hick?

Money in a bank won't make you happy. Best case scenario, you'll be a bit less worried.

$62k would have me singing Hakuna Matata in the morning if I had it in the right place

would be looking for things to worry about

Money solve problems, but it's worthless on its own. That's what I meant.

I don't think I'm doing too good of a job explaining myself.

Yeah, but the question was about happiness, not about not having problems.

I used to be happy with my wife when we just started dating. I was happier than I've ever been until that point and we had a lot less money than we have now.

Making videos makes me happy.

I work a part time job that allows me to make such videos so naturally I don't make much money currently.

Not to say I don't have plans of course.

But if I pin my happiness on X amount of money I'm basically saying I'll be unhappy until X happens.

Which to me sounds stupid.

Yeah you might be right.

I suppose part of why I don't feel particularly thrilled is because of what happened to me in the last month or so...

Me and my partner have been hoping to get our own place since the turn of the year. Since March we've had our eye on a dream two bedroom apartment overlooking a really nice park down the road from here.

I live in an area where a considerable percentage of the population follow religion n. I'm just going to say religion n to avoid any controversy personal offence to anyone here. People of Religion n are notorious for only selfishly helping and serving their own community even though this isn't legally a state of theirs.
Guy who owns said apartment is of Religion n. We put in an offer of £450k cash sale which is above market value cause we liked it so much. He decided to sell it to someone who matched our offer also in cash. The other buyer was also of Religion n. Turns out the man was lying about having £450k cash and chain broke. He puts it back on the market getting our hopes back up. Seems to take forever keeping us in limbo till he finally decides he'd sell. Went through the entire process paying legal fees and so on. Just days before completion we get a call from the agent saying he's bailing from the deal. Didn't state why. Weeks later we find out he sold from right under our noses to another buyer for the same price, also of Religion n. So fucking done with these people. I know I shouldn't let a single experience sour my perception here. But my brother has been through the same thing on two occasion over the past few years alone. In one instance, a local estate agent of Religion n people directly prevented a sale even when the owners had directly agreed up on it.

Guess this is part of the reason I might feel bad thinking about it. Oh well, I look on the bright side, if I keep things up I could probably buy five those apartments by the time i'm 25.

Edit: sorry about the rant

I treat 0 as 10k if I go below that I panic.

Money you can argue I say this because I got it.

But for me not worrying about how much something costs is key. I never ask I just pay or buy.

Yeah exactly I used to chase money I don't anymore. It's no longer a driving force for me.

Well yes and no.

Problem is if you can't deal or know how to handle money then your problems just get more expensive than easier.

To op.

If you really got 500k in liquid now.

Go speak to someone put it in an index tracking fund sp500 on basic level put 400k in.

Thank me when your 50.

I probably moved house most out of Outlaws it can be simple or complex move each time

For the house I bought saved £145,000 on it since it was in a bad state as such got the house for very little money with quite a few perks for example got a free car with it Ford from the 1980s .

Are you in the UK too? Assuming you brought your house prior to brexit, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be worth it anymore since then.
Back then you could hire good, and I mean really good builders from East Europe for dirt cheap. Now you're easily looking at over 60% labour costs and i'm stuck with English builders which means 3 cups of coffee before they even start their work day properly. And a 3 week job can easily turn in to 3 months. Even the Polish Builder that stayed are proper crooked now. Probably because of the dire lack of competition.

Yes. I bought it after Brexit.

Not much issues with builders I got few friends who do things plus I got building skills myself I can fix toilets or do most basic or advanced stuff myself easy enough.

If I need extra help can easy call on my friends or relatives to help me with building work.

@ggmopa if you want property look my way.

Check out south Wales valleys sub 100k (40-70k) rent will be 600-950 a month depending where you buy.

Some options.

Better than buying a 200k house and getting 950-1250 a month...

Those are some amazing yields lad! I thought super cheap welsh property was a thing of the past lol Guess I was wrong.

I remember there was a time when you were supposed to be able to pick up terraced houses for like £5k in some parts of wales. Mount Ash I think it was called if I remember correctly.

Wonder what's stopping all the fatcats from snapping deals like that up!

Well it still is cheap but problem is homes under the hammer has highlighted it..

So what you tend to see if houses under 60k listed as a "guide price" but if you prove funds etc you can make a deal.

Because people barter over them. There are still plenty of deals to be had tho..

Obviously a rough search.

65k

Rent this a 3 bed same area but still

It works because there's no money, jobs or prospects in and around these areas but people still need to live. So rent demand is high..
