Meta has been given the green light and can now train AI models with your public posts on Facebook and Instagram.

Starting May 27, 2025, Meta will be allowed to start training its AI models on EU users' public content from Facebook and Instagram. The decision has been approved by Ireland's Data Protection Authority, which acts as Meta's EU supervisor.

The approval comes after Meta implemented several measures to strengthen user privacy to the required level. Among other things, the company has become clearer in communication with users, offers easier ways to refuse the use of user data and a longer deadline for notifying users. In addition, the regulator requires Meta to report on the effectiveness of these measures in a report to be released this fall.

Despite the green light, Meta continues to face resistance. The Austrian privacy group NOYB, led by Max Schrems, has sent a letter of demand threatening legal action if Meta does not implement consent-based solutions. In Germany, a consumer organization has launched legal proceedings to stop the use of user data in AI training.

I am so happy I don`t use either FB or IG.

All my personal social accounts are fake. Nothing is ever posted it's there for gateway access only.

I wonder if this AI model is in timing with them deleting 1000s of accounts they consider to be "right wing" also..

this was a given from day 1
anyone shocked should get tasered

Domino effect:

1.People replaces search engines by AI chatbots
2. SEO loses relevance.
3. Bloggers stop wasting time writing articles that never rank.
4. If people don't produce content anymore, where can AI collect information and get trained?
5. Social media becomes a playground to train AIs

I think it makes some sense, not 100% but...AIs will be soon trained by themselves since FB posts are heavily botted and generated by AIs too 🤣

It's going to be the dumbest AI: all of its refence points are going to be from quotes with Minions backgrounds from soccer moms and misinformation.

People are going to ask it questions like, "Hey Meta AI, how old is the moon?" only to get this as a response:

I'm sure the ai will absolutely love my posts.
I asked Meta AI, "Hey, what do you think of UnusualSubstance's posts?"

Here's what it got back to me with:

Nice, could be cool to see a 50 years old AI agent.

It's amazing how many of my posts over the years have been removed, because snowflakes have no sense of humour.
