Microsoft has unveiled its own AI models for the first time: the MAI-Voice-1 voice model and the MAI-1 language model. According to Microsoft, the voice model is “blazing fast” and can generate a full minute of speech in under a second using just one GPU.

MAI-Voice-1 is already being used in Copilot Daily and Microsoft's podcast feature. The preview version of MAI-1 has been trained on approximately 15,000 GPUs (NVIDIA H100). According to Microsoft, the model is optimized for consumers, with a specialty in following instructions and providing helpful answers to everyday questions.

The model will be tested in Copilot in the coming weeks for some text-based responses. Microsoft is one of the largest investors in Open AI, and Copilot has so far been primarily driven by the same models as Chat GPT. So it's notable that Microsoft is now introducing its own models.
