Answered Ok, funny thing about auto merge and the comments.

If someone commented on my reply, I can't reply to their comment unless the auto-merge timer is disables because otherwise it auto merges the comment into the "father" reply.

I would've posted it on the comments thread but I already had to edit out merges twice now.

I thought I saw something odd happen to your post.

That's a difficult conflict to deal with and I'd need time to sort that one out.

I'm going to push the beta back as that's a pretty serious conflict. I also need to disable the comment button on the opening post in addition to this one.
