This is a quick guide I've written up on how to avoid sharing personal information.

This includes the following:
  • Your full name. Sometimes, this is unavoidable if you run a company that sells a service here, or in my case, own the forum. However, if you want make sure you're safe, avoid posting your full name on the forum.
  • Your address. Some people will go as mailing you things or even showing up at your house. I know people this has happened to and I also this happen to myself back in 2010 with someone online (I didn't even post my address; that goes to show you how crazy some people are).
  • Your phone number. Just don't post this anywhere in public. If you're friends with someone and share it in private, that's your business, but ensure not everyone has your phone number.
  • You full date of birth. You don't want this kind of information out there if you can avoid it as someone can steal your identity if they get even more information about you.
  • Any IDs. It doesn't matter if it's government-issued or a library card, do not share that here. We'll remove content like this under our doxxing rules, even if you're self-doxxing.
  • Photos or videos of yourself. Again, sometimes this is unavoidable if you run a business and have a headshot or have a YouTube channel or other social media accounts. Still, avoid it if you want to remain private.
  • Your workplace information. If you have an employer, avoid sharing where you work. Some people are malicious, and if you annoy them, they might try to get you fired.
  • The name of your current or past schools. Some people might try to find you in an alumni list, so avoid sharing this information.
  • Upcoming travel plans. If your address is out there and someone finds out you're planning on leaving your home unattended, then you're putting your home at risk here.
  • Photos with EXIF data. Some photos you take with your phone have what's called EXIF data on them, which sometimes has the location the picture was taken attached to it. If you want to share a photo, make sure to remove this information either by taking a screenshot of the photo or removing it using a tool.
  • Answers to security questions. If someone has your common usernames and passwords, they could potentially get into other accounts you have on other platforms by knowing the answers to your security questions, like your mother's maiden name.
  • Use a different username here then you do elsewhere. If you really don't want someone finding more information about you, use a unique username here. The fewer breadcrumbs you leave, the better.

Your Credit Card number & bank numbers.
Email addresses.. use alias if possible.

just remember
nearly 99.99% of all breaches and leaks happen because people are dumb and expose themselves
not because someone bypassed the system with their amazing hacking skills.
