I usually prefer WPX over anything else for my WordPress websites, but I started a pet website 4 months ago in a non-English language which I didn't take seriously at first and didn't want to pay $25 per month to host it on WPX, so I tried Namecheap's EasyWP hosting. But the website proved me wrong and is growing really really well.
EasyWP did pretty well, with no issues related to speed, uptime, or anything else... until I failed to pay for my monthly plan on time.
The plan renews on the 4th day of each month. The first charge attempt came through on June 4, my card was empty (I use a VC, which I usually don't hold money in unless there is a need), and it failed. I received a failed charge attempt SMS notification to my phone, I thought I will pay it later that day (and I fucking forgot).
The second charge attempt came through on June 6, which also failed because my card was empty again. I received another failed charge attempt through SMS. I immediately added money to my card, opened the EasyWP dashboard with an aim to pay it directly, and there was no "pay now" button. I wrote to Namecheap's online support, and they said EasyWP sends 5 charge attempts before suspending a hosting plan, and that I just need to add the funds to my Namecheap balance from where EasyWP takes it in the next attempt. So I added the amount to my Namecheap balance, and kept enough funds in my card too, just in case.
Two days passed, no charge attempt. Another two days, no charge. And a day later, on June 11, the website went down. I logged in to my EasyWP dashboard, and there was no website, no information about my plan, nothing, like it was a new account.
I wrote to Namecheap, they redirected the live chat three times "to the right person" before an EasyWP representative joined. He read the chat, said that I need to buy a new plan, I bought one, and then he said to wait. After 5 minutes, my website was up again. I told them this is inconvenient and that usually hosting providers "suspend" your plan if you fail to pay for your hosting, and let you pay and take the website up on your user dashboard by yourself for at least 1 month. They apologized, and said its how their system works and that they can't do anything about it.
I am not saying this makes EasyWP a bad provider. It was my bad for failing to pay my bill on time. But it is surely one thing that makes them less favorable compared to other providers that don't wipe out your website if you pay your bill with a few days delay.
