Urge to learn a new language

Anyone else have this random urge of learning a new language every now and then, and it never materializes?

What else is easy to learn like Spanish?

Spanish is considered easy mostly because of its proximity to English, I think.
I understand Spanish and some Arabic for its resemblance to Hebrew, so I guess it's a matter of what other languages you know.

French is technically complex because they have like 20 different tenses. It makes it super hard to learn properly, but not that hard to mumble and be somewhat understood. Italian is basically Spanish while doing this

Yeah French and Polish are out of the question for sure.

When I was kid, I used to watch German cartoons. I know more German thanks to that than I know Russian, and I've been learning Russian in school for years.

How is that even possible? I have no idea.

I know Spanish is likely the easiest, at least for Europeans, but 5 months seems too good to be true.

It would be badass to be proficient in that language.

How's does learning Mandarin equate to monetary benefits though?

I hear it's only the toughest out there but not sure about the money making aspects really

China is an untapped territory for Westerners.

If you know their language and can be present with an IM skillset, the possibilities are endless.

I don't remember where I read that some companies there hire white people just to stick around the office, not doing anything, they need to be present to show that the company has some international shit going on for them. Not sure how true it is, but understanding that language definitely opens doors you'd otherwise never enter.

They have a completely different toolkit in China. Baidu ads require a local rep to run the ads through because Baidu can't take clients out of China. Even when you do get an activated account it's like a poor attempt to mimic all the worst things about Google Ads and Bing Ads without any of the cool features. QQ is also weird AF, at least to me.. I don't get it at all, but I guess it's a cultural thing.

That being said, Chinese companies that try to expand to the west probably are great opportunities.

Never really had the urge to go and pick things up like that. Although I can get by in a few languages. Order beer, food, taxi, ask for the price of things in Spanish, French, Italian, German and most places I head out to Europe for work.

Most of what I've learnt (Japanese & Korean) is via martial arts once you start picking up how to count, strike, putting things together there's only so many words you start to miss that you need.

From what I recall of my childhood my mum pushed me to go into the Welsh medium I think learning that as a 2nd or 1st language (depending on how you view it) helps you pick up and understand other languages much quicker IMO*.

*I refer to it as coming from a multi language background if you can learn and speak two picking up a 3rd and 4th is easier..

I have head that learning Latin makes it very easy to learn all Romansh - Italian, Spanish, French etc languages

It makes sense, but Latin is pretty useless on its own unless you see yourself riding the pope mobile down Via della Conciliazione.

Might as well start with a language you can actually use.
