Here is a good read on performance vs. cost when choosing server for your next web project.

In recent years, we have seen the rise of ARM architecture in both Cloud and in Personal Computer Space. And now, they are being considered by everyone as a major contender for the future of computing. And as more than 40% of the modern web is through WordPress, they are starting to make headway into the WordPress hosting. Today, we will be comparing the performance between ARM and x86 and seeing which performs better and how they compare in terms of performance and price.

We will be comparing ARM and x86, hosted on Hetzner “shared vCPU” instances, to see which offers better raw performance as well as cost efficiency when running a typical WordPress store site in Docker. Here are the goals we’ll achieve from the study:

  • Raw performance comparison.
  • Cost-efficiency (requests/sec per $).

Didn’t know about this x86 v ARM. Hosting gets real complex at points. Used to think it was only choosing between shared or VPS or dedicated lol.

One of the reason me and many others moved away from Wordpress was the speed issue.

Blogger itself will load much faster than a standard wordpress site if you want to use WordPress you got to keep changing things which I found a bit annoying for why don't use anymore.

All my sites are now blogger or Flask for speed and security like being free to do whatever I want was why I used to make all sites in HTML .

Yeah dude, I literally want to move to static sites. There are plugins that convert WP to html site like Simply Static or Staatic. Too much security drama with wp admin being accessible on public net. Hopefully speed will improve too.

Makes sense dude.

I am very into speed improvements but on wordpress always get weird or complex.

I did try a few plugins all I tried found made sites very ugly or would break the sites or give me Google errors

Well, you can do static WordPress with the same speed and security but a nice admin for clients.

I prefer full custom options and full security already for me.
Yes, if you update them your self, but when you work with businesses they often want to update blogs ad text by them self.

Uh-oh. You're saying these plugins actually break Wordpress sites?

Very much hope so since I like the look, just don't want the whole dynamic stuff out there.

Some did break the sites yes .

A lot of AMP plugins broke sites when AMP was a thing before.

That’s why I moved away from it. Using Build and ButterCMS these days as someone semi-technical it saves me time. Using WP securely is more effort and worry than it’s worth imho. It takes serious technical know-how to do it properly including tedious renaming of directories and even re-organising file structure, at which point you’d just ask yourself if you’re that good, why wouldn’t you just be using laravel instead if you’re a php pro (as you’d need to be to work that well with WP).
Ordinary approach to WP to snap on plugins is not only cumbersome in terms of testing performance and compatibilities, but also it will just be laden with more potential attack surfaces that are a shot in the dark to deal with - how would you know how to assess vulnerabilities of you don’t know how to 🤷🏻‍♂️ not even strong a bulletproof infrastructure and platform will help you much sadly.
