301 an exact match domain

There is a client with a branded domain name. It's a SAAS and the niche is very competitive. The second biggest keyword in the niche is available as an exact match domain name at, to my surprise, only $4k.

Would it make sense to buy the domain and 301 it to client's homepage? Can it somehow help with rankings? Currently, the client has no positions for this keyword in top 100.

If it ranking for keywords it will give a ranking boost based on how highly Google consider it a authority site then attach to the site but make sure your client site looks good first.

Do foundation linkbuilding first as well if you not already done that

I think building out topical authourity on that domain would be better, then after you ranked it do a 301 and move the information to his saas domain.

The client website is established, we doing a decent scale link building for 3 months now. It is ranking for thousands of keywords and getting around 15k monthly visits.

But the keyword I'm talking about is super juicy, it is like 85 KD as per Ahrefs with 100k+ search volume. And I know for a fact that ranking for that keyword will add at least $30K profit to the client's business.

I think building out topical authourity on that domain would be better, then after you ranked it do a 301 and move the information to his saas domain.

If that's the case then attach the 301 redirection and should workout fine

EMDs still work? I onow you all are into SEO, but EMDs are amazing for PPC. So you can actually use it to generate leads to your client's business without exposing it too much.
Like a top-10 or something if it makes sense for the industry

Personally I'd buy the domain and then use it to capture or refer qualified leads to the client's site.

Use it as a high quality link back to the client rather than a redirect.

Agree with this: using EMD for ads and impulsive buyers. It works. I have an EMD I only use for ads. $$$

What is the purpose of using an EMD if you'll run ads anyways? You can drive ad traffic to any domain, as long as the landing page design is good, no?

Having an exact match domain could help you gain a little quality score boost (sometimes), but above that, it makes users trust you better, and competitors to approach you and offer CPL deals.
It's actually something I do now with a client.
