Hi!

I had a question. I tried searching the forum already but didn't find any threads on this yet!

Is there any real benefit in any way to choose Wix over literally anything else? I wanted to try setting up a new site but Wix seems way more expensive than EVERYTHING! Why not just get a domain and WordPress and some cheap hosting?

Am I missing something here with Wix? I just don't see the benefit.

I had to use Wix for a client who insisted on it back in 2022. I detailed the experience in this article on the client and using Wix here on my business website. I'll quote the part about Wix below.

Reason #2: Working With Wix

When we design websites, we often work within the budgets of our clients. At the cheapest, this means setting up a basic WordPress website and creating a child theme.

But with this web design project, the client insisted on us designing her site on Wix because her website was already on Wix. If you haven’t used Wix before, then all you need to know is that, at least back in 2022, you were heavily restricted by their site builder, which wasn’t particularly good in the first place.

As you can imagine, we ran into quite a lot of issues with the design limitations of the site builder because the client wanted features that were not possible to add to a Wix website.

Speaking of which…
It might be different now though, who knows.

Not really, use open source systems instead, wordpress has the largest third party support out there.

With one click installation via softaculous on even a shared hosting I don't understand why someone needs Wix. It's free to install and one doesn't have to know how to run Linux server via commands.

But it's good if you are looking at building parasites on the subdomain or have churn and burn blackhat sites that will be live for a month or two.

Sometimes for greyhat/blackhat niches we setup a dummy site on wix get a PR approved then setup a 301 redirect once approved.

Other than that I don't see a real usecase for wix.

Yes, less chances to get hacked than on self-hosted.
More chances to get taken down by Wix itself.
Best option is Vercel and static site in my opinion. They don't take down my black hat pages and I won't get hacked on static sites.

Wix sucks and it sucks really bad.
I say it it with sadness because I have friends working there.
But yeah, Wix is horrible.
Every time I get a client with a Wix site I try to move them to WP.

Also Webflow is a popular option.

Next thing, charge them once they get their WP hacked. :D

Yeah, well.. if you install all sorts of nulled plugins and look at security as a "nice to have" think so yeah, but in most cases the ease of management and overweight the risk of getting hacked. In my opinion, anyway..

People with low ticket clients simply can't afford to take care of security.

I hope one day everyone of us will have privilege of working with high ticket clients.

Ok

Wix is the devil. Honestly, other hosted solutions aren't too good either, very popular for ecoms now, many of these solutions actively used on the market. Hard to do ads on some of these, it's impossible to set up conversions 😐. Not sure how secure or not these are, since most small business owners have passwords along the lines of businessname12345 idk how secure that's supposed to be 😂. Wordpress is very, very hackable and breaks all by itself, but I still prefer to use it with small clients. I don't do anything extra security-wise for them since budgets are too low so it's not my problem. Very interested in static sites nowadays, but I wrote about this already so kinda repeating myself. For myself obviously, I don't really care if these cheapskates get hacked lol.

Nice tip, I kinda wondered if it's good for that!

Interesting.

Yeah, if you have family that provides for you / live with your family and have disability benefit paid by the state you can work with low ticket clients but people that have to pay their own bills literally can't afford low ticket clients. The pay is just too low.

Wix is one of the ones where when I figured out where everything was I didn't have a problem with it

Everywhere needs to be closer, haven't messed with Wix in about a year

V. easy to use
