Looking for a solid VPS provider that (actually) delivers.

Who are you using and why?

What are you using them for (tiny/small/med/big projects)?

Are they scalable?

What's the uptime and performance been like?

Any horror stories or standout experiences?

How’s their support when things go south?

Don’t just name-drop, actually upsell (without selling duh) & convince me.

To be honest, there are several VPS providers that I can recommend, but they all have different usages, and it's not a one-size-fits-all thing. Tell me what you are looking for and what you need it for, and I can give you a good suggestion.

Does it need to have a good uptime?, Does it need to be bulletproof?, Does it need to be in a specific country?, etc.

Nah, I don't need a VPS.
Was more towards having a thread, that people can give their own feedback and recommendations on why they are with that company.

While yes, nothing is really a 1 size fits all, but sizes are universal.
A small blog is still a small blog really and a company for example AWS is able to scale between small to big plans right.

To me, raw feedback without the intent of throat-shoved selling is the purest form of either appreciation or dissatisfaction (of the service).

Okay, well then here are some of my suggestions:

1) Hetzner
  • Affordable and powerful hardware.
  • Good privacy standards as its based in the EU.
2) Vultr
  • Has high performance plans (NVMe SSD, dedicated CPUs).
  • Has a fast deployment.
  • Cloud Compute and Bare Metal Options.
3) OVH
  • DDoS Protection.
  • You have lots of control over your hardware and networking if you like that.
4) FlokiNET
  • Bulletproof .
  • Based in Iceland, Finland and Romania which all have strong privacy laws.
5) OrangeWebsite
  • Accepts Bitcoin and is known for pro-free-speech values.
  • Has a reputation for ignoring DMCA-style complaints.
6) Netcup
  • Variety of options and generally one of the better known VPS solutions with lots of great feedback from customers.
  • DDos Protection and high availability.
7) PRQ
  • Known to host almost everything as long as its not completely nuts and borderline illegal
  • Offers extreme anonymity
There are a lot more, but these are the ones I have experience with. Have fun.

I actually finished doing a lot of research into some of these hosts.

Here's a quick summary of what I found the other day:
  • Hetzner - I heard they're good and their prices aren't too bad, but that they're really strict in terms of what contents on your website.
  • OVH - Their prices are good and they seem like they're a nice choice for black hat projects. However, some people have mentioned their IPs being 'dirty'.
  • FlokiNET - This is one I'm interested in working with at some point. The prices seem good, but they don't offer any managed VPS'. I think the only other issue is that their bandwidth caps are kind of low relative to other web hosts. Even still, they're my top choice, although I haven't fully decided yet.
BuyVM was one you didn't mention that I was interested in at one point, but last I checked, they're all sold out of the servers I was looking for. Otherwise, they seemed like one of the more ideal choices for black hat projects.

I don't like OVH. It was quite fast but their support which was not included back then was trash !

These days they do seem to include technical support in all their hosting plans.

General use, need to scale fast (both VPS and dedi, as you can grab dedi as low as $35): HETZNER
DDOS: OVH

I use Contabo, no issue so far
I use AWS as well, but gotta be careful, they will upsell you things you won't need

I am using cloudways as its managed vps and pretty good so far. :)

I am using Hetzner atm just because their price is competitive and best quality for the buck. Their support is fast, not instant, but fast (less than 30 mins on avg) and haven't had any major issue with them. I am usong cloud too.

The worst, used them fir a few yeras till I had enough woth them, I don't want to hear about them anymore. They don't have tgeir data centers, they just lowkey resell from OVH/Hetzner and they just oversell even the dedi ones I suspect they're not dedicated.

AWS EC2, ran scripts on the free tier for over a year without any issues.
That's interesting, thanks for the tip, I deff want to try them.

Not so much a VPS I like Linode.

Support is fine for transferring to a new Linode for upscaling or downscaling. As you have to manage it all your self the rest is on you, the set up and tutorial stuff on the site is spot on.

They now have managed options BUT I don't use them.

I have a 1GB Shared CPU for a small app project mainly hosts the DB and two sites for it.

Then dedicated 16GB for the main site and it handles the traffic fine.

Never had a problem or any real downtime really, it's only been when updating the site we turn server on and off.

The data centre we are in has had two issues since I've been using them for the past 12 years or so maybe longer but not once did it effect the site.

Biggest issue I have is paying £ to $ every 4-6 months or so the bank will stop the payment for "fraud check" they (linode) are fine with thet but gives you 3 days to sort it before they threaten to cancel you, like most companies being loyal earns no rewards or grace anymore. Apart from that its all good
