There is a debate where I live right now, with a fairly prominent political leader declaring he has 'never taken drugs or drank alcohol'.

I am not sure whether this is supposed to impress certain demographics specifically to gain favour and potential votes - but it definitely has had an impact which works in his favour and I have no idea why.

Some of the most intelligent people I personally know are borderline alcoholic, including a developer who loves hos pub crawls and who I haven't ever seen without a beer during every video call we have. Even during the day. Some older guys who love their whiskey. And some of the nicest are no stranger to drugs - 'soft' drugs at least like marijuana. One of the most pleasant lads at my university I know sips Yerba Mate all day everyday lol

I'm not going to judge someones morals based on this. Technically I think many things can become an unhealthy 'obsession', not just scheduled drugs. I think long as they can keep their shit together, especially if they've got dependants and/or are not beibg a public nuisance or threat or harmful to others, I couldn't careless personally.

I really don`t give a F as long as people are nice and friendly they can do whatever they want, not a problem.

Irish too?

Im flattered you think I'm a political leader.

Nah it doesn't bother me. I think I have a bit of an issue with class a drug use, more often than not people get hooked on it and you just see the worst side to them or there's an excuse. I'm old school I just like to go out and have a drink thats enough of a buzz for me if its 2 or 12 it's fine I don't need to mix drugs in with it.

I don't have a problem with someone smoking weed or whatever, drinking is fine.

I left the local pool team because the amount of powder that gets snuffed on a Thursday is beyond a joke the lads there are on it for 12-14 hours (no joke) plus the drink. I can't be around or deal with that, I'm too direct for people in that state. It's just easier to keep away from it.

A former snooker buddy I used to go out with on a Wednesday used me as his excuse to go out and snort the stuff because he needed a mid week fix, I'm no ones enabler so I drew the line under that and just stopped, he kept telling his partner he was playing snooker with me for months after we stopped until it all came out and got messy.

It's just a bad habit I don't like it. It's just not for me. But you do you.

Just don't let it become your master.

I've cut back drinking wise so I just go out twice a week now instead of three times and cut back on what I consume in the home. Just from choice really, focusing on other things.

I jump on here most times after having a drink and other forums just because having a laptop in front of me is part of my every day life and it's just fun to talk shit really, it's no harm. I don't see the harm in it.

I don't drink at all during the week, Friday night it's just part of my relaxing routine, can class that as good or bad I don't need to have a drink either but I do enjoy it, I work hard all week so why not.

Me going to the pub then on the weekend is 2-3 hours max just because it's nice to hang around with people who are not my family and have nothing to do with work. Sunday is the same wife and children go to church I go to the pub, normally 2 hours 3 pints of beer and I'm home, yesterday I had more because my pool buddy came in later and stayed out because he wanted to unwind so was out later.

As I said doesn't really bother me.

I see alcohol as a bit of liquid truth you tend to get a more honest side to someone and that's not always a bad NOR good thing, but you get a better feel for a person.

Honestly don't care but I usually don't spend time with such people just so to not attract those habits rest they can do all they want

+1

I mind my business and they mind theirs. Have a laugh together and move on with each other's life.

Yeah… I’ll find it suspect when someone says they’ve never, especially when running for some form of high position and using it as leverage. The reason is that most people have at one point or the other taken alcohol or drugs or some sort.
