Computing Google plans to phase out Chrome OS as soon as possible

Google has been frustratingly quiet about what Chrome OS and its upcoming replacement, a new Android-based operating system for personal computers, are really about. All official statements so far have been made in passing. Will Chrome OS still exist? Is the new platform just a more Android-based Chrome OS? A report from The Verge clears up some of the questions.

First of all, Google is said to be planning to phase out Chrome OS as soon as possible. Existing laptops that can't be migrated to the new system will continue to receive updates, however, in accordance with the update promises. Some devices will be updated for ten years, so it could be until 2033 before Chrome OS is completely phased out.

According to the report, the new PC system – codenamed Aluminum – will be unveiled this year, but it risks not being fully released until 2028. The information is based on statements made by Google's lawyers in court last year.

Even when the new OS that runs Chromebooks becomes available, it will not be compatible with all existing Chromebook hardware, requiring Google to maintain existing ChromeOS at least through 2033 to meet its '10 year support commitment' to existing users.

I used it myself it was good for cheap laptops but having more advanced stuff not work well on it overall last I read on my chromebook all said it would stop working in like 2027 I got no reason to buy another chromebook

True it was good simple things for example if you paid £200 you would have computer able to do this

Use google sheets or google docs
85% of all playstore apps work on it
Never crashes
Loads fast
Very light weight
Solid even oo it does not weigh much such as watched my Alibino ferret throw it a few times and never damage it

I do have Chromebook like 12 years old it does still run okay to compare to Windows that basically impossible to get now unless you pay a lot of money for a computer .

You do some people have a condition that makes their bones or muscles very weak as such as some people who got a Chromebook for health reasons as well.

Chromebook is designed for students, or simple office work.

I bought a Chromebook years ago, and still using it until this week when the hinge got broken, and that marks the end.
