Closing Linkedin.jpg

@Impulse and I got fed up with Linkedin and finally just deleted our accounts on there. @Impulse never used her account and I only had it up in case there were ever any passive opportunities on there because I found actively using it to be insufferable

To be honest, we both have hit a point with all social media that we'd just rather not give any of these companies the time of day.

If anyone else ever hits this point, make sure you have them delete your account data using this link. Rule 4.3 of their privacy policy states that they retain this account data.

Weird how different we all are, LinkedIn is the only network I use except for a X account, I deleted my FB about 10-12 years ago.

I rarely ever use LinkedIn anymore, but kept it around for the same reasons. A few old work colleagues I know and like on there and the rare occasional recommendations for side work. Haven't quite yet gotten to the point I'd be ready to nuke the account though. Last time I looked on there it was flooded with posts using the same generic AI rewritten, one sentence every line, how somebody disrupted an entire industry or re-invented their mindset :ROFLMAO:

We deleted our own Facebook account about 8 years ago.

Those posts are really annoying and part of what made me pull the plug as well.

It’s so bad there’s even a whole subreddit about it called LinkedIn Lunatics.

I mean... Literally as we speak some professor with most cited publications in electrical engineering hit on me on linkedin so there's that. I just fuckin can't with these old farts. Wasn't discouraged even that I don't live in my home city anymore (biggest tech polytechnic in the country is located there, that's why there are these academia folks in my network eh). He came to the conclusion that after he finishes his 2026 contract in Poland he can relocate to Kuala Lumpur 😬. LinkedIn is the next Tinder apparently 🙄.

What is wrong with these people? Who hits on someone on Linkedin of all the places? 🤣

Seriously, Linkedin just has too many people who are full of themselves.

Here's something everyone should be aware of. I got this email that says if you pay for Linkedin Premium with Apple Pay, you have to cancel the subscription with Apple because they'll keep billing you otherwise.

I'm happy you had a linkedin about a year ago, that's how I got to OO.

Also, even though linkedin is boring as hell, it serves a purpose. Having an author box with a linkedin account is great SEO-wise, so that alone is a reason to keep an account IMO.

I got some business from linkedin, but not much. I feel like it fits people that have suits and I only have tshirts.

Linkedin is how some other people found out about what happened to me as well.

It still has a purpose especially for ORM. It's actually why I didn't say Linkedin is useless in the opening post.

For @Impulse and myself though, we've been interested in reducing our online footprint as much as possible. @Impulse didn't really have anything, but I still had old stuff I was clinging on to over the last year.

I did a similar twice before, the second time being about a decade ago, and it's actually why you don't find anything under that name from prior to 2016. I'll probably post more about why I do this sort of thing at some point.

I do the big ol' purge about once every 5 years. It's tricky with social media though.. I've traveled extensively and have met a lot of people, many of which I'd like to meet up with again should I be in their area down the road. Facebook, IG, etc reduce the friction significantly in keeping in contact. So it usually boils down to "Have I spoken to this person in the last 5 years? Do I have an interest in maintaining a personal relationship to person?" If not, I'll axe the connection.

My main approach nowadays to reducing footprint is compartmentalization. Different digital identities, emails, phone numbers, etc for different scopes of my online life. I'm not particularly secretive or care much who knows me, hell, I know a few people here know my real name and who I am, I used it on the other forum and met up with some members IRL. I just don't care for having my full online identity easily mapped out.

y'all just ain't using them right

I've been considering it myself to be true

A load of Nathan's is all LinkedIn is

I do still have 'real, sm profiles with my real details but I really only use them to post reviews or make complaints to show I was a real customer better. I use an Alias for my everyday sm stuff though. Palantir and other intelligence statems probabky have more on my Alias than they do on me lmao

Yeah, the struggle is real... I get some, but not enough to unplug Shitbook 😐. It's free leads nevertheless, even if sporadic, and a way to save contacts from conferences so no way in hell I'm deleting this, might at worst stop logging in when not in use.
I feel like it fits people that have suits and I only have tshirts.
Eh. Fancy suits ain't bad. You can wear some combat boots with them and style your hair into a wet look or spike them 😂.

Eheheheheh, it's a bit like hitting on a clerk at a store 😂. I'm waiting for leads, all excited I'll earn something but NO, it's a guy.

On a positive side, this dude trying to invite me to a date offline in Poland 😂 and then hysterically trying to relocate to KL 😂 inspired me to at least change my LinkedIn location to unplug Poland. I can't really put Lanka there due to my visa drama (also idk how long I'll stay or not here, visas aside the country itself has problems). Soooo I realized that 2 best options are either Singapore or Hong Kong. I put Singapore for now since it's closer. Let's see if my profile actually starts showing up in Singapore. There must be some civilization there 😂.

Can't blame you @Zwielicht for not wanting to use this crap full of malware (I just *love it* when instead of a new client I get malware or dude that should be on Tinder).

Aaannnnddddd... you lost me lol
My hair looks the same when it's dry or wet.

I wore a suit once, it was for my best friend's wedding, and it was because he asked that all the best men to wear suits.

Didn't wear a suit to my wedding.
