Zuckerberg sunk billions into it and still couldn’t convince anyone this was the future.

Som bro I heard about spent six figures on metaverse properties because of those claims.

I read about it at various points.

Zuckerberg seemed to want it to be the standard for work and personal space. I think he envisioned a future where people wore headsets for work meetings so that they could “see” each other in a virtual place.

Yeah, it was crazy... In the past everyone used Second Life and now VR Chat is popular. It's very niche. Nobody would use that crap he made. Actually Google and also Sun Microsystems tried to make their own in early 2000s but also didn't succeed to outcompete then-popular Second Life.

It was a VR experiment gone wrong. Apple on the other hand are really acing this Industry by comparison. Interestingly, regarding the whole avatar thing, I recently learned of a platform that lets you do this called Secondlife you build your guilds and societies but can view them on a ordinary monitor, and it's predates Meta by about two decades so Meta can't claim that it was there idea, which I imagined they might have tried.

Yeah, the Metaverse never really took off. It was all hype at first, but honestly, it just turned out to be a huge money pit. Zuckerberg poured lots of money into it, and it still couldn't get the traction they were hoping for. People buying virtual properties? A bit crazy...

I made new accounts on many platforms and on Instagram I had feed full of AI, whereas on tiktok there were live streams and normal content.

Some strange things are happening at Meta right now. I posted a thread about how they laid off 700 employees but that's not surprising considering how many of their investments aren't paying off.
