If you get a notice (me) and you have a notice post date and expiry date.

Should the notice not be removed?

Or does it get removed x time frame after you had one?

I dunno I feel if it's expired then it should get removed or should not be public (unsure if it's public now)

In the UK if you speed you get 3 points after 3 or 4 years those points are removed.

Feels like I done my time if it's expired why not remove it? Or just make it visible to mods / admins for repeated offenders over x time frame?

Thoughts?

Notices are only ever visible to staff and the user they’re issued to. However, I know from the times I was a regular user of other communities that whenever I received any type of warning, I always felt like it “tainted” my account. There’s actually one account I have for an MMO where I have a black mark from 2007, and it was from when someone got into my account. This put me off the game for a little while. Anyway, because of this, I know it’s unsightly to look at, so I get why you want this.

I was thinking already of adding in something where a user can request the deletion of an expired notice from their profile. The main reason for even keeping them is for the sake of keeping a record of rule violations. Although. we have a private notes feature only visible to staff for that purpose, so I would be fine with expired notices being deleted from profiles or at least made invisible to the user.

I’ll spend some time looking over how to make this an automatic feature. In the meantime, you know the drill: 7 upvotes. We’re already at 3.

Already!?

Well, okay, I’ll implement it!

I used to like admiring my 5 pages of warnings (notices) on another forum, voted yes but as there isn't any point having them when they've expired.. unless you're a lil sentimental like me heh

Today's updates come as a result of a feedback thread started by @t2van. Many of you upvoted this suggestion, so I've implemented it.
  • Previously, notices were viewable to both staff and the member who received the notice. Now, notices are only viewable to staff members. This means the notice history is still there for staff to reference if necessary, but users no longer have to feel like their profile is tainted with reminders of current and past violations.
  • Previously, only an alert was sent out when a notice was received. Now, an alert and a DM explaining how many points and the length of active time of the notice are sent to the user.

Thank you everyone who voted on this.
