90 minutes less sleep per night is all it takes – to make you gain weight and sit more, according to a new study conducted by Columbia University Irving Medical Center, reports Scientific American .
This is not the first time that researchers have linked sleep and weight, writes Scientific American.
Not getting enough sleep is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and other health problems. People who are more sedentary are also at higher risk of developing chronic diseases.
Many of the previous studies that have explored sleep and weight have been conducted in a laboratory setting, usually for a few days, but with significantly greater sleep restrictions. In these studies, participants were allowed to sleep only four hours per night for three days.
