Notice About The New "Credits" Feature

No, it's not "Z Bucks"; it's not something that can be purchased with real money.

Currently, users get 1 credit for every reaction they receive. At the moment, we only have have one purchasable item , the cosmetic "Hot Rod" badge, for "$10" (1,000 credits; it only allows me to display the dollar amount for some reason even though it can't be purchased with real money).

I'm trying to see if I can integrate with the referrals system so that you can use credits you get from referrals who upgrade to Sapphire Status for discounts on your own purchase.

I'm also looking into other applications for the Credits system, like a thread bumping or promo feature for The Trading Post.

I mentioned in another thread that I want these credits to be earned for engaging with the community. This works with traders using them for thread bumps as well since traders are expected to be part of the community.

Sorry for the rough notes here as I'm still figuring everything out with this system, I just wanted to write something up quickly just in case there was any confusion about the new Credits feature.

Additionally, if anyone has any other potential applications for this, feel free to mention them below. Just keep the following in mind:

• Users cannot purchase credits with money, so I can't use this for The Trading Post unfortunately. It wouldn't help much since I don't have a way for them to "cash out" and, I'm not sure on this next part, but there might be legal issues surrounding having such a system.
• I'm mostly interested in fun ways users can earn credits. Maybe through getting stars, reactions, that sort of thing. Posts might be a little too easy to do and might encourage post count inflation, so I'd like to avoid that at least.

Potential Applications:

• Custom User Titles/Flairs (As in how your username appears)
• Enhancement/Designs on your profile (depending on if it slows the forum down or not)
• Username Changes for X tokens
• Purchase certain badges only unlockable with credits
• Enter Raffles with your credits (for giveaways for example)
• Purchase custom emojis with your credits, that only you can use after you have purchased them. (I am not sure if this is even possible, but I wanted to mention it anyways.)
• Credits can also be earned by archiving some things like having the most liked/viewed thread this week, for example.

Be nice to do something like reddit so you can just bump the like with some credit or silver, gold award or something or if you get X likes that relates to a silver credit or something?

That's the only thing I can think of them being handy for is just a peer to peer reward perk for info sharing.

Also helps cut down on posting for the sake to be placed on a leader board that could be swap out with a token based system. Just like reddit let mods and that have X to hand out, then once you have one you can pass that on to someone else and so on? Builds more a community.

So far, it looks like I can use this system to create a custom payment profile, I just need to figure out how to use that around the forum for things like custom user titles like you suggested. I’m sure that’s possible.

That’s an excellent suggestion, @t2van! That was the kind of thinking of; making this something to build the community up more.

I think taking an example from Reddit is a good starting point.

I tested it out right now, and the credits and cosmetic badge both work.

The upgrade is permanent, so even if you want to remove it later, an admin can easily see you purchased it and reapply it without you having to buy it again.

I did realise that 500 credits is a little low, so I made it cost 1,000 credits (it displays as $10 USD - I can't change this).

I'm not familiar with HF, but it might be the same system from the look of it, possibly even by the same author based on the name (DragonByte makes the add-on I use for this).

Admins still get trophies (which is why I have 4 stars), they just don't show up on the trophies leaderboard.

I can enable a credits leaderboard though, and when I do that, admins would be excluded from the "Richest Users" leaderboard.

It's good for me to have credits to passively check that the system is working without switching to a shell account.

It's already like that, with the exception of the staff members list and the referral list. I'll fix the latter if it becomes a problem and I start appearing at the top, but I don't think it will.

For some reason, disabling it causes the page to display oddly.

These 2 credits for what and how I got that ?
