Sure, I'll be giving it a chance. I loved the books when they came out and I enjoyed the movies. My main issue with the movies, as is often the case, was a lot of details from the books is cut out to fit everything in a 2 hour window. The showrunners for this seem to be wanting to address that problem. Also Hans Zimmer composing the soundtrack for the show is a win in my book.
I don't give a shit what color skin the actors/actresses are, if they do their job and act the character well then I'm all for it. There are plenty of ways to approach the bullying between James and Severus without it boiling down to racism, and even if it does touch that territory, we're talking about a literal fiction book whose primary antagonist literally wants to commit genocide and ethnic cleansing. It's not like this theming wasn't explored in the books already.
It's been 25+ years since the first film was released, I think enough time has passed to allow a fresh take to draw in a newer audience and create some comfort food for us older audiences and fans. We've had remakes of films for ages, and is nothing new, some of the most beloved movies of the 80s/90s are remakes of 50s/60s films. People just love to bitch and moan about anything these days.
