Implemented Add Crypto Payment Option for Forum Upgrades

Can we consider adding crypto as a payment option for forum upgrades or premium memberships?

There’s a growing chunk of users who prefer crypto - especially for quick, borderless payments. It could help tap into a wider audience, particularly those who don't use PayPal or traditional cards.

Might be worth testing alongside the existing options. What you think?

+1 from me… lots of people in our industry or others, they prefer crypto. My biggest client so far in terms of spending always paid in crypto every month for a solid year.

We can accept crypto payments manually, but we are very much interested in adding it as a payment option. There used to be an integration for it, but it no longer works for Xenforo. If we can find one that does work, then we’d gladly set it up.

Please check CoinPayments.net - I've seen many online services using it, and every time I've paid through them, it's been a seamless experience.

With the amount of issues Indian cards have with International payments. (Our central bank enforces 3D secure, most International portals don't) - I'd be very happy to see this implemented.

It’s already accepted, although it’s just manually done right now.

There used to be an easy option a couple of years ago to add a payment profile for it using Coinbase, but it unfortunately no longer works. I was reading about a few other options earlier, but I still need to see what can be done in 2025.

Yeah see it now, but it would be great if it were automatic. I hope that happens sooner rather than longer

Just as an update, I still haven't had a chance to create payment profiles for the various cryptocurrencies so that members can upgrade their accounts automatically.

In the meantime, I did write up a site guide explaining the current manual process and on which cryptocurrencies we accept.

Members are able to pay for Sapphire Status and Patron membership upgrades with cryptocurrency. However, something to note is that this is currently a manual process. What this means is that you'll need to open a support ticket up using our support desk here if you wish to purchase an upgrade...

Of course, I'll expand that list over time and eventually turn this into an automatic process.

Update #2: I can create a payment gateway now for automatic upgrades, but I'll need some time to set this up. I'll look into launching this sometime in February or March.

Another update on this: I'm still setting this up, but I've tested it a bit and it does appear to work so far, but I won't know for certain until I've finished testing it fully.

Once this all set up, I'll update this site guide with information on what cryptocurrencies will be accepted. If this all goes through, the list of cryptocurrencies OO will accept will be expanded.

Okay, I have this installed directly on the forum, but it won't be available as a purchase option until I iron out a few details on my end.

Members will be able to pay via crypto for any membership options available except for those which exclusively require karma.

I'm going to mark this one as implemented. Once it's available, I'll post an announcement thread and a changelog post about it.
