My first thought was AI replacement, but probably not. They overhired during the pandemic and are now trimming the fat.

Hitech always runs in cycles. You start by hiring like a maniac and then fire like an asshole. But the entire industry work at the same cycle.
Either everybody hire or everybody fire.

Yes this is always the reason 99% of the times. AI has nothing to do with job cut most times. After this cycle they will suddenly start to over hire and inflate the salary.
