Declined Chat vs DM

I always found the DM mechanism a bit weird because it's some sort of a mashup between an email and an IM chat.
On one have, you can have parallel communication streams with the same person (like email), yet, it tends to be a more casual conversation most of the time.

Is there an option to have it like a chat rather than the way it is now?
So all of my communication with a certain person would be in the same conversation rather than in multiple ones.

I know it's a long shot, but...

& it seems that IF we are able to get it integrated in
Users are also able to connect that same client to ThunderBird's Chat for example or other IRC-compatiable clients
Making it much more accessible aswell.
That COULD potentially keep sales and BST stuff inside the forum completely.
Ofcourse, TG is probably alot easier for those who probably never used an IRC before. (& that's clearly why TG and other apps were created)

This would be a really cool feature to add. The main issue is that a lot of thought would have to go into how we do this, like what addon we'll use, rules for it, limiting ways it can be abused, and other stuff like that.

That one is more highly rated. I also have it on my to-do to look into further, but it's another one where we need to wait until we have a way better server.

If any of you want to, take a look at it and tell me what you think and if it's more like the feature you want. It won't replace the built-in conversation feature though, but it can at least be another option like @roydan suggested.

Chat 2 seems too far from what most users are comfortable with or are used to. I think that it's too alienating as a feature, to be honest.

ah, it’s not similar, then.

Well, we’ll look for different add-ons and see what else might work. If anything, I can try taking a gamble on the one @Rem originally and just see how it works at some point.

I couldn't find a better add-on for this.

It would be hard to do away with the built-in Xenforo system entirely as so many features and systems here rely on that to function. If we ever did add a chat system on here, it would have to be in addition to the DM system. It's not completely out of the question, we would just need to find the right add-on for this kind of thing and ensure it's being moderated.
