The founder of PocketOS has penned a social media post to warn others about the “systemic failures” of flagship AI and digital services providers. Jer Crane was inspired to write a public response after an AI coding agentdeleted his firm’s entire production database. The AI agent’s misdemeanors were then hugely amplified by a cloud infrastructure provider’s API wiping all backups after the main database was zapped. This tag team of digital trouble has wiped out months of consumer data essential to the firm’s, and its customers, businesses.

Daily offline backups are a blessing I guess, seems weird to work on something live without it and use a temp site to work on before updating the live site/software.

This is exactly what happens when you think AI can take over any human task and is error-free. The owner is 100% at fault here, and if he doesn’t do daily backups while letting AI run part of his company, then no one can help him.

People are so dumb sometimes.

There are like 5 stages that should be between any developer (or tool for that matter) to deleting dbs.

The headline blamed Claude but this could've easily be the fault of a junior. The real blame is on the company that didn't bother protecting itself against things like that.
