Companies are Lying About AI Layoffs

Companies are saying that the economy and AI are causing the large amount of tech layoffs, but Vanessa Wingårdh looked at the H-1B visa data and noticed that the companies are lying .

That's not surprising, but it was a good move on their part to pull the public data from USCIS as proof.

"AI" isn't really at the point where any of these companies can properly replace employees yet. It doesn't mean it won't become acceptable enough at some point, but I can see why they're even more interested in H1B visa holders in the meantime.

Having dealt with the US immigration process myself, I can tell you that part alone is a nightmare, so I feel for these H1B workers. But imagine coming over here and having your permission to live in the country tied to your job. If the job has a toxic work place, you'd be a lot more hesitant to just quit. Same goes with speaking up about anything wrong in the company; you won't want to get fired for saying the wrong thing, so you're more likely to comply.

H1B visa holders do have a 60 day grace period to find a new job to sponsor their visa. However, here in the US right now, the labour pool is flooded with people struggling to find work anywhere, let alone work that would sponsor your visa.
