So I just read about having an llms.txt file on your site.

It's basically a sitemap for AI.

"A proposal to standardise on using an /llms.txt file to provide information to help LLMs use a website at inference time."

It seems it's not an official thing yet but some people are still creating llms.txt.

I think it would be a good idea to have one in place for if/when it does become official.

Then again:

"Google has been saying that no one uses the LLMs.txt file, that Google won't use it, that it can be useless, and you probably should noindex it if you do use it."

Thoughts?

It’s possible, but some webmasters don’t like AI bots crawling sites.

I suppose it depends on whether or not a site is seeing any benefit from LLMs in the form of traffic or revenue.

I put it on my site just in case.. can't hurt.

If you want to get recommended, you should make it easier for AI to understand why you're the best at what you do.

Yeah, if it doesn’t hurt and has a potential benefit, then it’s worth trying in my opinion.

Speaking of which, I still remember that message you sent me about AI bots being blocked here. I need to get around to that at some point.

Black hat guys hate it... but solution is to go a little more grey hat.

I made a thread about mixing black and white. They said "don't do this", but... research shows it's actually a good idea in certain niches.

People wouldn't understand anyways...

Interesting a place as small as OO forum can benefit from LLMs... I asked Gemini and it doesn't know what OO is.

But it knows what OfficeOutlaw FORUM is. Not OfficeOutlaw though.

No doubt it knows what ferret office Outlaw is

It will take time, most webmasters like the idea but AI companies have not adopted it yet for a while.

Part of me leans in the camp if an ai is that smart shouldn't it know?

If a crawler can figure it out then ai should....

This is more about ai companies changing the search narrative and moving away from search as we know it to a chat bot system..

Least my take.
