Uses AMD's Ryzen AI Max Plus Pro 495. New price increases will make it quite expensive.
Framework has shown off an upcoming new model of the company's compact desktop computer, the Framework Desktop. It uses AMD's new Ryzen AI Max Plus Pro 495 and can be configured with up to 192 GB of primary memory shared by the processor and graphics chip. This means, among other things, that it can run really large language models, such as Deepseek V4-Flash with 8-bit precision.
The system chip is AMD's new top model in the Gorgon Halo series and has 16 Zen 5 cores with a boost frequency of 5.2 GHz, 40 Radeon 8065S graphics cores and a memory bandwidth of 273 GB/s. The AI computing capacity is 131 TOPS. It is basically a minor upgrade of the AI Max Plus Pro 395 with a higher boost frequency and, above all, an increased memory ceiling from 128 to 192 GB.
Other improvements in the upcoming Framework Desktop model are that the PCI Express slot can handle more and larger cards, which Framework illustrated with an example where two copies of the computer, each with a 50 Gbit Ethernet card, are connected together to run even larger language models.
The preview of the new model comes as Framework is raising prices on 32 and 64 GB of primary memory configurations of the Framework Laptop by nearly 100 percent. The 64 GB now costs $1,600 in the US.
