Fun fact: Windows is now 30 years old - wish I was too, hmm.

Microsoft released the operating system to computer manufacturers on July 14, 1995, and just over a month later, on August 24, sales opened in stores.

Microsoft spent heavily on marketing the system, including a commercial featuring the Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up" as a reference to the Start menu and a 30-minute demonstration of the system featuring Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry from the then-new and extremely popular TV series Friends.

In some countries, computer stores stayed open all night and customers lined up for midnight sales. In New York, Microsoft paid to light up the Empire State Building in the colors of the Windows logo.

Its launch became a cultural sensation, coinciding with the first major wave of internet usage. Several features that first appeared in Windows 95, such as the Start menu and taskbar, have become firmly entrenched in the public consciousness. Even today, it's easy to see the kinship in Windows 11.

Did you use it, what is your memory of it?

I used it when I was doing job in 2005.. internet is too slow, can't access through phones or any speedy internet.

Never did had Amiga during that time period
My buddy back then had the largest Amiga BBS in our country at that time, it was like warez heaven on dial-up lines.

Very cool. For me I got amiga was left to code things. I got a load of free or rare stuff at the time my dad was working in a college and lot of students give him free games or other things they made

My first OS was 3.11, so I remember Win 95 as a huge leap forward and very user friendly.
What a fun time it was..
Remember Commander Keen and Jazz Jackrabbit?

My first computer had 3.1 the consumer version, but I never used it, installed Win95 Beta on it in -94, my buddy used 3.11 but I did not buy a computer until the Beta of 95 was released, the 3* version was too boring.

Jazz Jackrabbit
Jazz Jackrabbit 2: The Secret Files is the game of my childhood 😭. Everyone at my primary school was playing this 😂. I think I actually still have this somewhere on my hd, it works on Linux through Wine and people actually used to play it online years later but I didn't play it in a while so idk if they still play it online or not 😂.

Used to first have DOS, then migrated to Windows 95 which was a big deal. Mostly used it for playing Prince of Persia 1, CDMAN(like PACMan), and few other games which I don't remember now.

All in my GOG.com account :)

Yeah I used it. I remember being all DOS windows 1 & 2 I think. Cant remember if there was a windows 3 or if that was Windows NT I certainly remember that and moving to 95 was a massive jump. The taskbar, blue screens of death and that.

I think after windows 98 or so I remember moving over to Apple to use Corel draw because it worked with a specific plotter in school and I sort of stuck with Classic OS or Maybe OS8 can't exactly remember the versions now
