The head of the Android ecosystem, Sameer Samat, has confirmed in passing that Chrome OS and Android will be combined into a single platform. When or how is not clear. Last summer, Chrome OS began to become more Android-based to speed up the pace of development.
In late autumn, a rumor claimed that Google would even replace Chrome OS with Android. Now, for the first time, the merger has been officially confirmed. Google executives said as early as the early 2010s that they envisioned Chrome OS and Android being combined in the long term.
Android has become more desktop-friendly in recent years, better suited to laptops and large screens than before. An upcoming version of Android 16 will also offer a built-in desktop interface.
