I saw something the other day I can't remember if it was on this forum or a blog post / YouTube video saying that some drop in page rankings are not down to anything you done wrong BUT more to do with the fact that google hasn't really done a "proper" crawl of the site since it last ranked you. In that time competition has come along and of course that's all new and shiny and it bumps you off a top spot.
Not sure if anyone has seen that?
I didn't really give it much thought.
Well earlier this week a page that seems to have fallen flat on it's ass and out of the SERPs totally (limbo page 70+ land) I asked GPT to compare that page to competitors, list what we wrong or what I thought was wrong and where and what could improve, I told it to be specific and I actually gave it a list of competition that had beaten me and compare my page to theirs.
I asked it first to just rework the content and page titles.
I done that and copied to over and thought id request a new index (the page was already indexed)
Like presto it's now back on page 1 although sitting at 6 instead of the no.2 spot it did hold. It dawned on me then had I just done the re-index trick I previously seen or has the AI improved a fair bit where it's recommendations where on point.
I'm not sure if it's a case of either or, OR just dumb luck.
Anyone else tried the reindex thing before and had success or failure? OR noticed that GTP 4o seems better at getting some on page things right?
Going to try and split test a little with another two category pages and see if it was a case of one or the other, OR just dumb luck
Thought id share
