Still early days for me as i'm still studying but that being said, everything i've been doing since about 15, i've been doing with a specific carreer goal in mind. Had a complete change of heart and am making a one 180 turn into something completely unrelated. I just wondered if anyone has ever made a complete change in careers as an adult.

How long did it take you to 'establish' yourself professionally?
What kind of challenges did you encounter?
What was the reason(s) to change and was it worth it?

I'm looking toward a family friend who had a complete career change and became an accountant in his 40 and it took 6 years to train himself properly and establish a professional reputation. Then on the other hand I have another friend, who also happens to be an accountant also in his 40s as it happens who says a career change in to adulthood is absolutely not worth it for the long hours already invested.

What do you guys reckon?

I had some changes of plans before I went for PPC, but not since I started that at 22/23 years old.

I can tell you that up till I was 21 my life went toward a very specific direction and I was forced to change.

From interviewing a few dozen people for jobs of different seniority levels, I can tell you that the sooner you make your change the better. Restarting at 35 after you already have a family is not as easy at it is at 25. Not just because of the wage and hours, but imagine having a boss 10 years younger than you, which is most likely an ass because it's their first managerial position. Not fun at all.

Also, as a former 25 y/o ass manager, I didn't want to hire a 35 y/o junior because it raises a lot of questions. Ended up hiring one and it was rough for both sides.

Started growing potatoes to try and calm my inner demons you know garden and zen and all that.

Within 2 years I was self sufficient. All I cared about was growing food and farming.

Wish I done it sooner. Never saw my self as a gardener or farmer type ever but I have so much regret never been shown that sort of thing as a kid.

(I'm lucky I made a business out of that now)

I think everyone has an idea of what they want to do and tends to zero in on it.

Personally I think everyone should be exposed to as much as possible because the idea or thought of doing something because it makes sense is not always right for you.

My children I try to expose them to as much as possible so at least I hope they find a hidden passion they really click with.

From my own experience discovering that later in life honestly feels like a waste.

Sort of. Before I did internet marketing, I used to do electronic repair work. However, even at that time, I still did IM on the side, although I didn’t know what I was doing was internet marketing (it was referral marketing, to be more specific).

It's very common most outside of the boomers from the younger generation had to change careers often.

For example my brother was plane engineer now a boat engineer.

I started my career in Retail where I was a shop manager after that stopped I mostly ecommerce then SEO among other things.

Yes I have changed from medicine to programming and IM. I was training myself during the college period so they were in parallel. I didn't take time to change careers as someone was asking me to work for him as a programmer meanwhile I was working on hospital so shifted between 2 weeks period

Yes, I was a civil servant before I became a degen and start ''working'' generating AI hentai on internet
