I was looking for some add-ons that allow users to customise their profiles when I came across this: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/ap-style-suite.8282/

It looks like it’s a more modern take on that old MySpace level of customisation; that is to say, it’s not as annoying, but it gives you a lot more freedom to personalise your profiles.

What does everyone think about this add-on?

I like that it has the option to keep it default ( Users can ignore each others styles ).

Question 1: Will it cause the site to load slower ?
Question 2: Will users to not be overwhelmed by having too many options?
Question 3: Since users can customize, won't it be a seizure inducing experience for everyone ? ( new and existing users)

  1. It's possible, but the current server should be able to handle it just fine. Even still, it'll most likely increase page load times for individual profiles.
  2. If I purchased this, I might disable some of the features. For instance, I'd probably disable the username colour change.
  3. Yeah, that was an issue on MySpace. Thankfully, even that aspect of it can be disabled.
If this were to be added, I would have to make sure the experience is balanced between fun and sensible. So avatar frames and adjusting username/banner fonts heights on the profile itself would be enabled, but then the more annoying stuff like playing music from your profile would be disabled. Don't get me wrong, I liked that feature on MySpace. but I don't think I need to be blasting everyone with "Natural Born Killers" on my profile in this age.

It's something I would need to look into a lot more before we could add it in, but I mainly wanted to see what others thought of it.

Admittedly, I found this add-on when I was looking for a way to add avatar frames, but I don't need this add-on in order to do that as there's another, lighter weight add-on that does that specifically. Edit: Actually, this seems like the only good add-on that can do this. So if nobody is interested in the other aspects, I can disable everything else as I only really wanted to do something with usergroups and avatar frames.

I think avatar frames and usergroups is a mega +
alot of the features screams too much at times.
although, give me

k thanks.

I also think, if we do add some of the stuff, put it behind sapphire/patron instead.
Remember, usually, the fancier you look, the more people are going to instantly trust you.

Honestly, I think it's too much. Very hard to digest all of it as a new user, and even as a not-so-new user.

Based on the responses so far, if you we get this, I'd have to massively limit the customisation so that we don't have a full-blown MySpace situation.

I'll keep waiting to see what others say about this before making a final decision.
